ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple this week unveiled iPhone Pocket. Inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth,” its singular 3D-knitted construction is designed to fit any iPhone as well as all pocketable items. It’s already sold out – in short and long lengths and all colors – in America
Samantha Kelly for Bloomberg News:
The iPhone Pocket, as it’s called, is a wearable smartphone sling made in collaboration with Issey Miyake, the famed Japanese label that created the signature black turtleneck often worn by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. But the fashion brand also has a loyal following in its own right, which helps explain the queue of customers who treated the launch like a drop from Supreme or Nike.
“It’s so cool design-wise because it’s designed by Issey Miyake,” said Lee Aizner, a 26-year-old women’s fashion designer in New York City. “As a designer, I love it. I heard it was sold out and it makes me immediately want to have it.” Aizner, who said she owns several Issey Miyake items, including a blouse and pants, said she hoped to buy one of the longer ones in black but that it sold out minutes before she arrived.
Available in two sizes — short ($150) and long ($230) — the Pocket comes in a rainbow of colors and has a 3D-knitted construction designed to fit any size iPhone…
It closely resembles a karate belt in both texture and size and can be worn several ways, including over the body, tied to a bag or held by hand.
Apple’s website lists only 10 retail locations worldwide that will sell the product in stores, and the SoHo location is the only one in the US. The others include major cities such as London, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris. The iPhone Pocket was also available for purchase online, but all color options and sizes were listed as sold out for delivery as of Friday morning.

You put me in the “I don’t understand” bucket.
I remember people buying pet rocks so I’m not surprised.
Totally unnecessary product , seriously what is Apple thinking with this nonsense. Obviously Tim Cook authorised it which makes me wonder if all the trolls who’ve been calling for Cook to resign actually have a point.
Emojies and and socks er, pockets. Produce low and them sell out. Is this the next best thing?
All hose people in New York who are asking fro socks instead of food know that Apple isn’t on their side. Give them some emojies instead of something to wear.
At one time I was proud to be a one eyed Mac supporter. Sure the market was against us but we had pride and panache…we had style.
Nowadays Tim does a deal with one side of politics and to the hell with the other side. Steve Jobs was above this and focused on the users and then the shareholders next. Now it’s reversed and I just don’t like Apple anymore because they’re the same as every other company.
Look I just bought a MacMini. It’s a great machine but now I dislike Apple. Microsoft couldn’t do it but how ironic it is that Apple is causing me to dislike Apple.
Fashion lemmings.
I want one with toes.
This collaboration honestly feels like one of those “only Apple could pull this off” moments. A simple fabric sling turning into a hype-drop item says everything about the combo of Apple’s cult following and Miyake’s iconic design language. I’m not even surprised it sold out instantly — the aesthetic is clean, minimal, and very Miyake.
The price is definitely “designer,” but considering the craftsmanship and the fact that it’s basically wearable tech-meets-fashion, I get the appeal. And seeing crowds lining up like it’s a sneaker release? That actually made me laugh — but also made me want one.
Apple limiting it to just 10 stores worldwide is classic Apple scarcity strategy too. Honestly, I’m curious to see how many people end up styling it in creative ways. It’s weird, cool, and very on-brand for both companies.
If they restock the black long version, I’m grabbing it before it disappears again.
Dumb as a bag of hammers. Find a stray sock and cut two slits, Walla! Apple pockets no money!
