Apple is increasing its Apple TV+ subscription price by 30%, raising the cost for U.S. customers from $9.99 to $12.99 per month. The price hike, effective August 21st for new subscribers, will also apply to select international markets. Current Apple TV+ subscribers will face the increased rate within 30 days of their next billing cycle.

Todd SPangler for Variety:

In justifying the price hike, Apple noted that it has launched a slew of TV shows and movies and that the service doesn’t include any ads. Indeed, Apple TV+ remains the only major streaming service that does not offer a price-reduced ad-supported plan.

“Since it launch, Apple TV+ has expanded its deep library of hundreds of Apple Originals, with thousands of hours of premium programming across genres and brand-new releases weekly — all ad-free,” the company said in a statement. “Subscribers can explore a rich offering of thrilling dramas, epic sci-fi, feel-good comedies and live sports.”

Apple most recently raised the price of Apple TV+ in October 2023, when it went from $6.99 to $9.99 per month in the U.S. The streaming service initially bowed in November 2019 at the loss-leading price of $4.99 monthly.

MacDailyNews Take: Apple TV+ at just $12.99 per month is still an incredible value!

Note also that if you buy an Apple device, Apple TV+ is included free for 3 months and Apple TV+ is included in Apple One, which bundles up to five other Apple services into a single monthly subscription. Apple One plans start at $19.95 per month. In addition, the Apple Music Student Plan comes with a free subscription to Apple TV+.

  1. So, if I had Apple TV+, I have to now pay $155.88 a year to watch others, not all, making tens of millions to act, sing or play sports. Really?!?

They may think they are worth it. Apple may think they are worth it. But I, meh, I’ll watch Rumble or YouTube shorts videos of average. day citizens making idiots of themselves and be just as entertained, keep my money and thank the good Lord for cutting the cord to paid entertainment decades ago as I do not lament missing all these supposed “high quality, limited quantity” shows. But that’s just me. You can do what you want with your hard earned money.
