Last week, Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman reported that Apple is developing an extensive hardware and software roadmap focused on artificial intelligence and smart home products, featuring advancements in robotics, a new AI-powered Siri, and innovative home security devices.

Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News:

• The company is planning to launch a tabletop robot as a virtual life companion as early as 2027. It looks like a small iPad attached to a robotic limb that can move around in space. You’ll be able to talk to it throughout your day to get work done, with the device helping with communication and calendar management.

• Apple is planning to roll out a HomePod with a screen to compete with smart home displays from Google and Amazon. This will launch next year and rely on facial recognition to customize the software for each user who walks up to it.

• The company is planning a new smart home operating system dubbed Charismatic. It operates like a blend of tvOS and watchOS and will power both the HomePod with a screen and the tabletop robotic device.

• Apple is developing a large robotic arm for use in retail stores and manufacturing.

• Multiple new versions of Siri are in the works, including a conversational system for the smart home, a version with a visual personality, and one with a new design for the iPhone and iPad.

• Apple is planning multiple home security products as part of a new end-to-end ecosystem to compete with Google’s Nest and Amazon Ring.

MacDailyNews Note: Gurman calls Apple’s near-term roadmap, “the biggest pipeline of new products in its history.”

But, as Gurman note, “it all hinges on Apple making strides in AI software” which is “far from a sure thing, though securing a major partnership or acquisition would help.”

  1. In the last 5+ yrs, I’ve gone from the “trained” (reasonable expectation) to be excited about product releases to, “I hope this is true,” to “not another futile-future announcement.”

AAPL would do it’s reputation well by announcing a product and finishing with; “available at Apple Store this weekend”, or, “downloadable at The App Store tonight.” There may have been a few delayed/non-resultant announcements with Jobs, but throughout the Jobs era, his presentations, with One-More-Thing, to product materialization…he delivered.

“The company is planning to launch….” has become Cook’s pacifying press release.

  2. Mac Photos, “use Apple Intellegence to create a new memory”. Okay, make a memory of the trip to Costa Rica. “Sorry, use different terms”.

    Apple Intellegence is dumb.
