President Donald Trump will announce on Wednesday that Apple plans to invest an additional $100 billion in U.S. manufacturing, marking the tech giant’s latest commitment to boost domestic production of its products to sidestep steep tariffs on its signature iPhones.
Hadriana Lowenkron for Bloomberg News:
The announcement at the White House on Wednesday includes a new manufacturing program designed to bring more of Apple’s supply chain to the US, with an eye toward manufacturing additional critical components domestically, according to a White House official who detailed the announcement on the condition of anonymity.
“President Trump’s America First economic agenda has secured trillions of dollars in investments that support American jobs and bolster American businesses,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a statement. “Today’s announcement with Apple is another win for our manufacturing industry that will simultaneously help reshore the production of critical components to protect America’s economic and national security.”
Earlier this year, Trump warned that he would hit Apple with a tariff of at least 25% if it didn’t move manufacturing of the iPhone to the US, a day after meeting with Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook at the White House.
Cook has led a push by Apple to win a carve-out for its iPhone product line, with phones currently primarily manufactured in China and India.
The company has previously announced it plans to spend $500 billion in the US over the next four years, which will include work on a new server manufacturing facility in Houston, a supplier academy in Michigan and additional spending with its existing suppliers in the country. Wednesday’s announcement will bring Apple’s cumulative commitment to $600 billion, the White House said.
MacDailyNews Take: We love it when a plan comes together!
Expect specific exemptions from U.S. import tariffs for important Apple products. – MacDailyNews, February 2, 2025
If only we had seen how President Trump’s trade policies played out globally and how the markets reacted and responded previously. [dripping sarcasm]
Anyone who thinks Apple won’t get significant, meaningful U.S. import tariff exemptions hasn’t been paying attention. Profit from the panic of the uninformed and misinformed. – MacDailyNews, March 19, 2025

America First. Even if CCP-pet Cook has to be dragged there kicking and screaming.
MAGA 🇺🇸!
You know that you are a gutless, fscking moron if you keep bleating America First. It’s a dead give away.
“America First” = moron, now?
Have you been diagnosed?
Absolutely, AMERICA FIRST!.
Made in the USA is the only way!
Tariffs = Taxes
Trump’s central planning via tariffs is about as CCP as it gets, and it’s having the opposite effect of its supposed intent. US auto makers must pay exorbitant tariffs importing the raw materials they need, while EU and Japanese car makers simply pay a 15% tariff to import to the US.
For example, Ford builds more vehicles in the United States than any other automaker—it churned out 1.8 million of them last year—while employing around 57,000 manufacturing workers at plants across the upper Midwest. It’s a legacy American brand, doing the sort of blue-collar work in the Rust Belt that the Trump administration believes its trade policies will directly benefit.
In reality, the tariffs are crushing Ford. The automaker announced this week that it paid $800 million in tariff-related expenses during the second quarter of 2025 (during which it posted its first quarterly loss since 2023), and that it expects the tariffs to reduce annual profits by about $3 billion.
Enough of outsourcings, America/Americans are suffering for no jobs high unemployments, homelessness, think for long terms, etc.
The golden years is blooming.
The tariffs actually make it more attractive for foreign companies to offshore US production. Would you rather
Import your product from Japan, and pay a 15% tariff or
Build your product in the USA, and pay 30 – 50% tariffs on all the raw materials and components essential to your product, and never quite know when Trump is gonna slap a new tariff on some component or materials you require for your product.
This is why Ford expects the tariffs to reduce annual profits by about $3 billion.
Whatever Donald wants, Donald gets. Regardless of which side you are on, the guy is relentless. I’ve never seen any politician bend others to his will so completely.
Its unclear whether all of this tariff and reshoring is going to materialize in a positive way but it is a grand experiment, to be sure. Anyone gloating or complaining at this moment should probably check their ego and keep an open mind.
Tim Cook, once again, proves why he is so good at disarming explosive situations.
