President Trump has announced that he expects Apple to manufacture iPhones sold in the United States domestically, warning CEO Tim Cook that failure to comply could result in a tariff of at least 25% on Apple products.
President Donald Trump via Truth Social:
I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank your [sic] for your attention to this matter!
Additionally, President Trump recommended 50% tariffs on European Union imports from June 1st.
MacDailyNews Take: These are negotiation parries. Clearly, Trump wants more from Apple (and, more importantly, in the ongoing China and India trade negotiations) and from the EU than they are giving today.
Both tariff announcements are likely stated today so that the markets can have the three-day U.S. trading break to digest.
Expect turbulence in the markets until deals are reached and uncertainty is lessened. No pain, no gain.
As for AAPL near term, there’s another round of nice deep discount deals to be had!

Not so fast. There are 2 parts to this one.
There is the Apple/US-specific threat, unrelated to the Euro threat, of a 25% tariff.
Then, there is the Euro threat with probable retaliatory tariffs on Apple iPhones, perhaps as high to match Trump’s 50% threat.
Now of course, yes, it’s a negotiation, but dream on if you think Trump will go back to zero for US phones imported into the US, and whatever deal the US cuts with Europe will probably up tariffs on Apple iPhones into imported into Europe as well.
Yes, not concluding with 25% in the first case, and not concluding with 50% in the second case, but still higher in both cases than this morning.
This will significantly impact Apple’s earnings.
Stop defending this narcissistic orange prick. He and his insider buddies are insider trading all the way down at the expense of long term holders of US equities.
Way too much MSDNC.
You sound pitifully stupid, bless your heart.
Try thinking for yourself, for a change, if you can.
trump is president to 1) stay out of jail 2) enrich himself 3) destroy what’s best about America.
maybe apple needs to give the narcissist-in-chief a new plane….
Got it. So, a far left prosecutor finds a far left judge who’s daughter works for the DNC, and they bring on a jury in a district that voted 95% for democrats, and they bring charges that have never been brought before for a crime that had no victim, and you think Trump is president to stay out of jail? If anything, let’s call a spade a spade: Trump is president to keep bullshit lunatics off his back because the left has proven a willingness to come after him without regard to law, tradition, or common sense.
Case in point: the left titled Jan 6th an “insurrection” so they could put people in solitary confinement for months in order to threaten and intimidate the right.
Are you for real? He has more money and wealth that he or his family could possible need for generations to come. Can you wrap your head around the fact that he might just care about the country and where it’s headed and is willing to SACRIFICE his time, reputation, and energy to help.
What is it he’s destroying exactly. Spell it out. Do you…
You mean how he eliminated DEI?
Is stopping men from playing against women in sports?
You mean how he’s protecting children from doctors, hospitals, and drug manufacturers?
You mean how he wants to make America healthier?
Maybe you mean how he wants to eliminate tax on tips or tax on overtime pay?
Perhaps you don’t like America actually manufacturing things again and don’t realize the national security that brings?
He’s destroying the flow of illegal aliens who poured over our border to consume our resources, tax dollars, hospitals, schools, and housing? Who take jobs from Americans, who kill our citizens, and wage wars in our streets?
So tell us, what exactly is he destroying? And be specific. Don’t just repeat talking points with the absence of fact. Cause as the majority of Americans see if in the latest polls, America is doing just fine and is headed in the right direction. You say he’s “destroying what’s best about America”. Ok… what?
Too many words to describe your pathetic, lying, butthurt!
Instead of threatening to destroy US companies he should begin building the education and infrastructure to handle bringing such jobs back. Until then, comments like the one made this morning will continue to weaken the nation as the US self implodes its own industries. The House and the Senate are the only body that has the ability to implement taxes such as tariffs. They need to be held accountable for their failure to perform there duty.
Wrong.
Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962: The President can impose tariffs or quotas on imports if the Department of Commerce determines they threaten national security. This was used, for example, to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports in 2018 and 2025.
Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974: allows the President to impose tariffs or other trade measures to address unfair trade practices by foreign governments, such as discriminatory policies or intellectual property violations. Read: CHINA.
Section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974: Allows the President to impose temporary tariffs or quotas to protect domestic industries from import surges causing serious injury.
International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977: Grants the President broad authority to regulate commerce, including tariffs, during a declared national emergency.
Nice try. There is no national emergency. He does not have the authorization to implement tariffs
In the United States of America, the President (Donald J. Trump) has the authority to declare a national emergency under the National Emergencies Act of 1976 (50 U.S.C. §§ 1601–1651).
First Then, as always, has it 💯% correct. President Reagan imposed quotas and tariffs on Japanese auto makers and Japanese TV manufacturers during his admin because they were dumping gov’t subsidized electronics and cars into the US markets.
There are far more than a mere two parts in these moves.
Some people really need to read The Art of the Deal. It’s all in there. Even a Democrat could understand it.
As MDN states in their Take, these moves, especially the Apple iPhone 25% U.S. import tariff threat, are meant more to influence the ongoing China and India trade negotiations than to get Apple to make iPhones in America (however, by now, if Apple had been applying their capital correctly instead of blowing it on windmills, mangrove trees, carbon credits, and whatever other climate scam nonsense the infinitely gullible Cook swallows, they’d have by now automated a great deal of iPhone assembly instead of still, in 2025, lazily, greedily, and immorally relying on cheap Chinese slave labor to screw and glue them together.
You will find that, in the end, this will not significantly impact Apple’s earnings.
America has been financing the world via unbalanced trade for decades. America has a debt of $36.9 trillion. The interest on the debt is projected at $1.025 trillion for fiscal year 2025 or $2.6 billion per day in interest costs on US debt alone.
America holds all of the cards. America is where the money is made. America is exceptional. It’s about time we finally had a president who’s putting the interests of American citizens first, over the interests of the corrupt establishment.
Correct, as usual.
Those who think President Trump’s tariffs are bad for America, either do not value America or don’t fully understand the magnitude of America’s value.
As MacDailyNews posted on X just this morning:
Here is a list of the top 5 consumer markets by country, based on household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) in U.S. dollar value (consumer spending):
United States: ~$18.8 trillion
China: ~$7.0 trillion
Japan: ~$2.5 trillion
Germany: ~$2.3 trillion
India: ~$2.2 trillion
Add up the 2nd – 5th consumer markets on earth and they still total $4.4 trillion less than the U.S.

looks like Tim misjudged this one as well time to go
Convicted felon tRump only cares about himself and his rich friends. He is working for Putin and wants to destroy The United States of America. He is part of a rebel alliance and a traitor!
Yep… no tax on tips. Totally benefits Trump and his “rich friends”.
Yep… no tax on overtime pay. Totally benefits Trump and his “rich friends”.
Yep… threatening to impose more sanctions -or- provide better weaponry to Ukraine. Totally working for Putin.
Yep… strengthening the military and proposing the dome. Totally destroying America.
Garbage in. Garbage out. The brainwashing of America by the mainstream media is the real crime here. And claims like this only substantiate their propaganda ability.
Might be cheaper to pay tariffs on the phone rather than what it would cost if it was built in the benighted states of anericastan
I’m glad Apple is spending plenty of money on share buybacks, as this is the only way Apple will return any value to shareholders. This stock is in a downward spiral and nothing Apple does seems to help it. Investors have lost confidence in Apple, as A.I. seems to be the only thing that matters to anyone.
I honestly don’t understand why a government would push a technology that takes jobs away from human workers who really need jobs to survive. I’m probably just ignorant or old-fashioned, but artificial intelligence doesn’t seem that necessary when most people are going to school to get an education.
WTF America? Your fathers/mothers, grand fathers and grand mothers fought and died to defend the world against the NAZI’s and you turn around and elect the NAZI’s to lead your nation. How you can live with yourselves is beyond me
It’s not just noise—every mew, growl, or chatter has a job, whether it’s a kitten begging for milk or a tabby snarling at a rival. Back in the day, I thought my cat’s hiss was just her being extra. Totally 1000% WRONG. She was communicating something specific, and I had to crack her cat language. Here’s the rundown of the main cat noises, their purposes, variations, and how breeds shape the soundscape.
