Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced during an antitrust trial on Wednesday that Google is targeting an agreement with Apple to incorporate its Gemini AI technology into new iPhones by mid-2025. The testimony, reported by Reuters, underscores Google’s ambition to expand its AI footprint in the competitive mobile market.
Pichai’s comments come amid ongoing trade tensions and U.S. tariffs exceeding 100% on Chinese imports, which have disrupted Apple’s supply chain, particularly in China, its primary iPhone manufacturing hub. As Apple explores alternatives like India for production, a potential partnership with Google could enhance its AI capabilities, offering features like advanced image creation and text generation.
This move follows reports from March 2024 on X, indicating Apple’s earlier talks with Google and OpenAI to bolster iOS 18 with generative AI.
However, the proposed deal raises questions about data privacy and market competition, especially given Google’s history of multibillion-dollar agreements to secure default search status on Apple devices.
MacDailyNews Take: The more AI plugins available to Apple Intelligence users at the system level, the better. While Google’s Gemini is perhaps the last AI we’d ever choose (or second to last, after Meta’s) due to privacy, bias, and other issues, the more options the better until or unless Apple can catch up and provide its own quality GenAI.
We switched our main genAI use from Google’s Genesis to Grok 2 months ago because it was clearly better in multiple ways, from summarizing text to generating images. Grok 3 beta, which we are now using, is clearly a major advance. – MacDailyNews, February 20, 2025

Being linked to GOOG with such critical tech has parallels to linkage with China.
Both are bad players and I don’t need the stain.
Is Grok dismissed b/c of the connection to the soured man?
Gemini is probably better than Grok, but also yeah, that might also be a factor, Musk has become a toxic association for much of the world.
Gemini pales in comparison to Grok 3.
Yes, God forbid a genius entrepreneur responsible for thousands upon thousands of jobs at several companies, finds and publicly identifies hundreds of billions of American taxpayers’ dollars stolen and given as kickbacks to Democrat and their donors.
For a genius, he pretty much made himself toxic to a huge number of the world’s population……
And the bit about hundreds of billions of $ stolen…. It iss just hilarious that u believe that….

hugh.
Musk made himself “toxic” to all of the right people. Smart people back Elon and always will.
Grock 3 is the best!
Google is evil and Apple should not invite more of that into its ecosystem.
