Helped by Apple, Nasdaq ends higher as traders focus on tariffs, data

The Nasdaq closed higher on Tuesday, driven by gains in Apple, while Nvidia saw a decline, as investors evaluated consumer sentiment data and anticipated a more lenient trade policy approach from the Trump administration in the coming week.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that automobile tariffs were coming soon, while suggesting that not all proposed tariffs would be enforced in an April 2 announcement on which Wall Street is focused.

Apple rose, helping keep the Nasdaq in positive territory, while Nvidia slid… Tesla shares rose after a 12% rally the previous day.

According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 gained 9.22 points, or 0.16%, to end at 5,776.83 points, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 83.26 points, or 0.46%, to 18,271.59. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 12.48 points, or 0.02%, to 42,595.80.
