Last year, Pixelmator announced its acquisition by Apple, and today the company confirmed that the acquisition is now complete, following Apple’s receipt of regulatory approval. To mark the occasion, the Pixelmator for iOS, Pixelmator Pro, and Photomator apps have been updated with a new splash screen celebrating the deal.
Pixelmator is a well-known image and photo editing app that competes with Photoshop and other Adobe image editing tools, while focusing on ease of use and performance. The apps are exclusive to Apple’s platforms.
No changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, or Photomator apps have been made at this time. Apple could eventually integrate these apps into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but for now they remain separate and available from the App Store.
MacDailyNews Take: As we wrote back in November:
Congrats, Pixelmator Team on your well-deserved reward!
Years ago, MacDailyNews dumped Photoshop when it became subscriptionware and switched to — and have always very highly recommended — Pixelmator Pro!
And, yes, we’re praying they don’t do to Pixelmator what they did to Dark Sky!

Pixelmator has always been fantastic. I NEVER EVER have had nor will use rentware Photoshop. Hope Apple doesn’t DEI Pixelmator.
Or, take it the way of Dark Sky…that was replaced with Microsoft-likeness.
Long time stock holder would pay (again) to get Dark Sky back. Plundered brilliance. Thanks for nuthin Apple.
Apple should have absorbed Adobe years ago. Apple has a very long history with Adobe WAY before Microsoft did.
