Apple is facing challenges in introducing Apple Intelligence to the Chinese market due to the Chinese Communist Party’s strict regulatory environment, The Information reports. The company has been working with Baidu, a leading Chinese tech firm, to navigate these complexities and expedite the launch of Apple Intelligence in China. However, the process has been hampered by stringent security, privacy, and content regulations imposed by the Chinese government.

Citing two individuals said to be familiar with the situation, the report claims that Apple and Baidu are racing to adapt the latter’s most advanced large language model, Ernie 4.0, to work well for iPhone users both via the cloud and on-device. Apparently, the models have had difficulty understanding prompts and providing accurate responses to common scenarios.
While Baidu wants results to be driven by data used to train its model, Apple wants it to provide a more personalized answer based on a user’s iPhone usage. Likewise, the two companies have clashed over the use of iPhone user data to train and improve the AI models. Baidu reportedly wants to save and analyze data from iPhone users, but this is forbidden under Apple’s privacy commitments.
MacDailyNews Take: When it finally debuts in China, Apple Intelligence, like everything else in the country, will be compromised and markedly less useful due to the authoritarian Chinese Communist Party.

Communist China may never be able to compete in AI. Its model of control and censorship may be fundamentally resistant to successful artificial intelligence.
Wrong. Their model is not to develop AI. It is to steal it or require vendors to share it and then to only adapt it to satisfy the communist party apparatus. This article says as much. They don’t invent, they steal and expropriate. Why the US allows even one student to study in our university system amazes me. Corrupt American universities are bought off and whoring for Xi.
