Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on the PBD Podcast posted on Thursday that Apple CEO Tim Cook called him to discuss the $17 billion in fines that Apple has been hit with by the European Union (EU). Trump said that he won’t let the EU “take advantage” of American companies like Apple.

Emma Roth for The Verge:

“Two hours ago, three hours ago, he [Cook] called me,” Trump said. “He said the European Union has just fined us $15 billion… Then on top of that, they got fined by the European Union another $2 billion.” In March, the EU fined Apple around $2 billion after finding that Apple used its dominance to restrict music streaming apps from telling customers about cheaper subscription deals outside the App Store. The EU later won its fight to make Apple pay $14.4 billion in unpaid taxes.

“He [Cook] said something that was interesting,” Trump said. “He said they’re using that to run their enterprise, meaning Europe is their enterprise. “I said, ‘That’s a lot… But Tim, I’ve got to get elected first, but I’m not going to let them take advantage of our companies — that won’t, you know, be happening.’”

The Verge reached out to Apple with a request for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.

MacDailyNews Take: Things that make you go “hmm.” One thing’s for sure, Cook isn’t wrong about the EU:

The European Union arose because the Europeans couldn’t compete on their own with the rest of the world, so they each lined up to surrender their national sovereignty, unique cultures, and dignity for an undemocratic, opaque, wasteful, bloated, bureaucratic quasi-governmental blob – and, even with the EU’s thumbs all over the scale, they still can’t compete.MacDailyNews, March 4, 2024

        1. Those odds on polymarket are based on real people betting real money. The market has over 2 billion dollers in volume, and is backed by an open, public blockchain called Ethereum. It’s about as close to reality as things get.

      1. Please, for my own clarification, tell me how Trump is a fascist, and how letting 12 million unvettable illegals into the U.S. is a good thing. Harris promoted BLM, defunding police, no cash bail and likened CBP officers to the Klan. The Klan was, and is, an instrument of the Democrat party, BTW. The Dem candidates are largely funded by Wall Street banks, that have been happy to turn over customer purchase logs to the FBI without a warrant to be used for illegally monitoring gun purchases. 55 intelligence leaders lied about Hunters laptop to sway an election.
        This is who you promote?

  1. The MacDailyNews take is bang on. This so-called ‘trade union’ has now turned into a full blown authoritarian regime extorting and jack booting it’s members.

    Get out while you can!

    1. Springfield, Ohio, man reported Haitian migrants snatching geese out of park just 2 weeks ago – 9/11/24

“I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trail, I’m going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of them, they all had geese in their hand,” the caller told a dispatcher.

The Aug. 26 call originated from Springfield, a city of 60,000 about 45 minutes from Columbus — that has become synonymous with fears of culture clashes arising when a large number of migrants move into a small town all at once.

About 20,000 Haitian immigrants have flocked to the sleepy burg in the last four years, which has put significant strain on local resources, prompting city leaders to pen letters to US Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) this summer desperately seeking federal aid to ease their economic burdens.

On Tuesday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced he was sending Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers to help local cops, and was also earmarking $2.5 million to fund the city’s overburdened health system.

Residents attending a Springfield City Commission meeting last month shared a variety of horror stories involving migrants doing everything from harassing locals to throwing mattresses on front lawns to consuming anything on four legs.

Anthony Harris, 28, had a range of complaints about poor migrant behavior.

“These Haitians are running into trash cans. They’re running into buildings. They’re flipping cars in the middle of the street, and I don’t know how like y’all can be comfortable with this,” he vented to city officials at the Aug. 28 meeting.

“They’re in the park, grabbing up ducks by the neck and cutting their heads off and eating them.”

    2. I would rather vote for someone amplifying constituents complaints about disappearing pets (yes, it happened) than someone who promoted BLM, defunding the police, no cash bail and pushed the lie about lower violent crime rates when she knows that this is an issue with some of the largest, most violent, cities being “unable” to report data to the FBI due to a software change.
