Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max sets records for best performance and longest battery of any smartphone

The iPhone 16 Pro Max has solidified its flagship position with the best performance and longest battery life ever seen in a smartphone.

In a recent test by PhoneBuff, the iPhone 16 Pro Max went up against the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in a variety of app functions, all controlled by a robotic arm. The results were impressive. The iPhone 16 Pro Max lasted a total of 28 hours and 14 minutes, with over 12 hours of active screen-on time and 16 hours of standby.

This exceptional battery life performance has set a new record, surpassing any other smartphone ever tested by PhoneBuff.

Benjamin Mayo for 9to5Mac:

In comparison, the S24 Ultra managed… 27 hours and 18 minutes… The previous iPhone, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, achieved 27 hours and 45 minutes, when it was tested a year ago on iOS 17.

This year’s PhoneBuff test was also slightly more strenuous, with more simulated scrolling through Instagram and other apps than was conducted previously.

PhoneBuff uses a programmed robotic arm to precisely mirror input interactions across phones, making for one of the most realistic synthetic battery life benchmarks we’ve seen.

  1. Doesn’t seem like the economy has recovered enough for a significant uptake of iPhone 16s, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised on Oct 31 earnings release.
