• InSight: A feature similar to Amazon Prime Video’s X-Ray, providing real-time information about actors, characters, and music in Apple TV+ content.

• Enhanced Dialogue: Improved audio clarity for better understanding of dialogue in movies and shows.

• Automatic Subtitles: Subtitles now appear automatically in appropriate situations, enhancing accessibility.

• 21:9 Support: For those using projectors, tvOS 18 beta 6 introduces support for this aspect ratio, providing a more immersive viewing experience.

Additional features in tvOS 18 include:

• Redesigned Apple Fitness+ Interface: A more user-friendly layout for exploring workout content.

• FaceTime with Continuity Camera Live Captions: For English speakers in the US and Canada, this feature allows users to read captions on their TV during FaceTime calls.

  1. I have been asking Apple including Tim Cook for captioning on FaceTime for years and years. I started asking when my father was about 95 and found it difficult to hear me in our daily FaceTime chats. He died 2 years ago at age 104 but stopped having FaceTime chats at 102 because by then he was nearly deaf. We lived 3000 miles apart so I only was able to be with him a few times in the last years of his life. I always suspected that this was FCC regulatory issue because common carriers like AT&T had a lock on captioning telephone service when the technology was trivially simple to add to the existing FaceTime code. It could probably have been done in a few hours or maybe a few days given how much Apple’s productivity seems to have fallen since COVID and the snow-flake culture at Apple took hold.
