Apple said to have ‘several hundred’ working on a robot arm with attached iPad

Apple tests HomePod with a display with iPad mini running tvOS 17

Apple is reportedly interested in the home robotics market. The company has assembled a team of several hundred to develop its first product: a robotic arm equipped with an iPad-like display.

Brian Heater for TechCrunch:

The product has reportedly been in the works for around two years, though the team has ramped up efforts far more recently.

Apple isn’t exactly taking the easy road. As difficult as producing an electric self-driving car would’ve been, the world of home robots is littered with failed projects, with the sole exception of iRobot’s Roomba and subsequent robot vacuums.

MacDailyNews Take: The bloat is eye-watering. Steve Jobs (or Elon Musk, for that matter) could have done it with a team of “several,” if that many.

      1. What ifs are very easy to spew out for unreasonable haters and fanboys and are a dime a dozen!

Fact is Tim is who made Apple the most profitable company … and he did not achieve that through Bloat! or you have no conception or understanding of the scope of what Apple is!

        Even Jobs Admitted that ..

        Information is a good thing ! …. Dogma/bigotry no so much !

        1. Sigh,

DEI was implement by Cook, not Jobs.
Social justice was implented by Cook, not Jobs.
Pride dildo emojis were mplemented by Cook, not Jobs.

“It just works” was implented by Jobs and changed to “It doesn’t just work” by Cook

  1. I understand that the iPad can be replaced with a tampon insertion device in honor of the Dem vp candidate. It will be an instant hit with all of the libtards.

  2. The headline just makes it sound like a product-reach.

Besides, when was the last time I wished my iPad had an extension-like arm? When was the last time I wished that arm could be mobile and “smartly” face me as I moved and likely address my murmurs? When was the last time I thought I needed another “helper” so I didn’t have to use my gluteus maximus, thighs, core and some other muscles and body parts, as I instructed my brain to use some energy, defy gravity to accomplish something in space?

Sure, these devices can amaze and tickle the appreciation of tech, but there is a cost. “Primal” connection to the body and real awareness of space (and time) is being eroded as we focus so intently on these digi-Worlds. I love my Apple devices, btw…but I am intently aware of the digital-diversion, especially when dumb-sounding devices–like the one here–are highlighted.

  3. what a peculiar perspective.

several hundred workers is not a lot for Apple’s size.

investing in this type of project is not “bloat.”

it’s what they should be doing.

  4. Maybe just me but it really sounds like this is like an Amazon Show that just tracks a person’s location to keep the screen at a viewable angle. Possible use case in kitchen or bathroom where a person may be moving side to side while accomplishing tasks.

    1. And, possibly “inadvertently” relaying info to non-approved eyes? Our sacred iPh IS a tracking device, so this type of device can be/will be used for other’s benefit…w/o the principal’s approval/knowledge.

      I’m just a conspiratorialist.
