When you’re caught flat-footed like Tim Cook’s Apple, you pop into scramble mode to try to catch up. Early on, you hit it with a big marketing flourish (WWDC24) in order to buy some more time. Then you dribble out features as they get finished and actually exist. Classic vaporware. – MadDailyNews, July 31, 2024
Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News:
Apple Intelligence won’t roll out in September when the iPhone arrives; it will probably begin launching publicly in October. And even then, customers will only see a small piece of the vision that Apple presented when it unveiled the capabilities in June at its Worldwide Developers Conference.
After testing the first beta version of Apple Intelligence myself, I can tell you that the features don’t yet live up to the excitement. In their current state, they’re a far cry from the game-changing technology that fans and investors hope Apple Intelligence will become… Now, it’s true that this is just the first beta release and the company will undoubtedly improve it over the next few months. But I suspect that we’re seeing a fairly good picture of what Apple Intelligence will look like when it debuts around October…
Some key Apple Intelligence features aren’t in the initial beta. That includes a Genmoji tool that lets you creating your own emoji with AI (you can imagine a lot of Apple’s advertising focusing on this feature). There will also be a new Image Playground app for creating AI photos and the ability for the system to automatically prioritize missed notifications. And we’ll see new Gmail-like categorization in the Mail app and integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. These latter capabilities will likely come in November or December.
Users will have to wait until 2025 to see the fully revamped Siri. The new interface that’s coming this year is mostly just about the look and feel. What’s coming next year is an under-the-hood revamp based on upgraded artificial intelligence models.
But even when the full scope of Apple Intelligence is available, the company will still be playing catch-up… Apple’s effort still feels like a response to the AI revolution being advanced by Google, OpenAI, Meta Platforms Inc. and Microsoft Corp. To be more of a leader, Apple is going to have to start releasing more meaningful features — and fast.

Apple Intelligence is as much vaporware as the 1st iPhone was vaporware, or the 1st Apple Watch was vaporware, or the 1st Mac was vaporware.
I honestly don’t understand this recent mantra by this site (which often has good takes) that Apple Intelligence is “vaporware.”
It’s a new and evolving technology that, like all technologies, has to start somewhere, with version 1, and evolves over time.
Apple is particularly well positioned to use artificial intelligence to benefit consumers, by personalizing it, using personal information not to sell ads, but to provide concierge-like services. And all that tied in with hardware-software integration that only Apple can do (no Nvidia needed), and Apple’s traditional approach to introduce new technology and refine refine refine over subsequent iterations.
And it’s just starting.
Not “vaporware.”
More like “Version 1- ware.”
Are you an Apple apologist or just a Tim Cook knob-slobber?
I’m making a factual observation about a new and evolving technology.
I understand you’re caught up in political and personal beliefs that have nothing to do with apple or reality.
So, if you’re not an apologist or waving some flag out of some misplaced pride, it’s not my fault that you can’t read a simple definition. I blame the teachers unions and U.S. public schools.
Don’t feed the trolls.
Factually, until Apple actually releases Apple Intelligence, by the given definition it remains ‘vaporware’.
Finally some intelligent commentary on this subject. I agree wholeheartedly.
I believe AI will not just happen in a “big bang”, it will evolve slowly over time. And without a solid use case, AI is just another toy. Apple’s use case – as a personal assistant – is an excellent beginning.
And to think Apple is behind on this, I would say “behind what?” – given that AI at the moment is still so prone to error. (check out the story “32 times artificial intelligence got it catastrophically wrong” at livescience.com )
Does it blend? Let’s see:
[Apple Intelligence] has been advertised but is not yet available to buy, either because it is only a concept or because it is still being written or designed.
Well, what do you know? It blends!
Verdict: Apple Intelligence is vaporware; has a long way to go to match its marketing hype
always been my observation that “vaporware” is a term best used for software that, in the end, proved it never existed and NEVER WOULD EXIST.
I think Apple Intelligence is, in some form, gonna exist.
So I have a choice of believing Mark “Clickbait” Gurman or Tim Cook who is managing a 2.4T dollar company successfully. Hmmm. What a dilemma. I’m going to go with Tim Cook.
Tim Cook is a glorified parts-order. I way over his head.
The definition of “vaporware” LITERALLY describes Apple Intelligence.
Hey, how many billions of Apple shareholders’ dollars has dumb-ass Tim Cook flushed down the “global warming” carbon credit toilet?
CO₂ is plant food, genius.
“Climate change solutions” are a socialist global wealth redistribution scam. Either Tim Cook is too stupid to figure it out or he’s in on the scam.

OK, I get it but I’m getting tired of the bashing.
I say all the time, I’ve made a million mistakes in my life. But I learn from them, I pivot and I keep moving forward. It’s not the mistake, it’s the doing nothing afterwards that is the killer.
So, let’s wait and see what Apple (Tim) does now. Apple has not been the first on many things but, they seem to be able to do things better. Especially with today’s news about Google. Most people knew this day was coming for Google so, how does apple react to that? Is there an opportunity there?
Just saying, staying focused on past misses isn’t helping.
