Siri’s new capabilities will be a major, if not the, highlight of the Apple Intelligence rollout, but, given Apple’s standing start in GenAI, and subsequent mad scramble to catch up (which will be ongoing for years), a Siri that actually works and is useful most of the time won’t reportedly be ready until spring 2025.
Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News:
For the first time, the digital assistant will have precise control over actions inside of Apple’s apps. That means you can ask Siri to, say, edit a photo and then ship it off to a friend. It also will have the ability to understand what you’re looking at on your display, helping Siri determine what you want to do based on the context. But neither of those upgrades will be ready when Apple Intelligence launches this fall, as I’ve previously reported.
Instead, I’m told, Siri features are likely to go into beta testing for developers in January and then debut publicly around the springtime — part of an iOS 18.4 upgrade that’s already in the works. Other Siri features, such as a new design and ChatGPT integration, will be coming later this year.

So, summer starts on June 21, 2025. So “arrive next spring” could mean June 20, 2025. I’ll mark my calendar now.
I hope they wait as long as they need to, soak to avoid all the pitfalls that have befallen other companies that jumped in with both feet.
Every promise from Apple seems to be a rushed half baked fiasco. It’s like all of the Microsoft and Google rejects are now part of the Apple dev team.
Applying for Apple employment, they ask about gender, race, and pronouns.
Why does that matter?
It’s pretty common across the board. Apply for a university teaching job and expect much more of the “qualifications” needed related to ideology. Allegiance/loyalty has superseded actual understanding of a field/topic. DEI, woke, cultural Marxist cruft.
Apple can’t even execute a proper bait & switch! You’re supposed to reveal this AFTER the iPhone 16 is released and selling like hotcakes for a few months. At this point I’m waiting with fingers crossed for a folding iPhone in 2025. No sense spending $1k+ in September to have to wait until April 2025 (or later) just to discover all the new ways that Siri can infuriate you.
3 comments above all have a diff focus, but all point to an AAPL manifestation displayed in–at least–the last yr: confusion, misstepping, and appearance of wandering. All companies have instances and periods of incoordination/discord, but Apple’s display is unsual/head-turning.
If Siri is suddenly functional after all these years we’ll know Apple Intelligence isn’t just marketing spin.
