Apple to delay launch of Apple Intelligence features in Europe due to DMA regulations

Apple will delay launching three new artificial intelligence features because landmark European Union tech rules require it to ensure that rival products and services can function with its devices, the company said on Friday.

Reuters:

Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to conjure text, images and other content on command, would be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with its M1 chip and later versions. iPhone Mirroring on MacOS Sequoia allows the phone’s screen to be viewed and interacted with on Mac computers.

The company said on Friday three features – Phone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence – will not be rolled out to EU users this year because of regulatory uncertainties due to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

“Specifically, we are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security,” Apple said in an email. “We are committed to collaborating with the European Commission in an attempt to find a solution that would enable us to deliver these features to our EU customers without compromising their safety.”

    1. The Administrative State is real, powerful and steaming ahead with vigor in the West. “Administrative” is a misnomer as it has little to do with more organization, but more control. The EU and Australia are leading the way, while the plebs there passively watch and succumb.

      1. The left policies need an increasing number of people working for the government to keep people employed.

For example, the EU is spending nearly a trillion $ on climate change which has gotten zero results. That takes a lot of money.

        1. Related; new public sector jobs (govt) are at highest levels since Covid/’20. Private sector jobs grew at half the pace of government jobs.
Not a good sign. “That takes a lot of money” too.

          Administrative State growth…”proof.”

  1. The delay is not an unintended consequence. Any idiot knows that regulation stifles creativity and innovation. The EU just does not care. The world can leave them behind. At their peril.

  2. They will work it out. They have on everything, even the USB/Lightning dust up. I for one am glad it worked out that way. What is worse is if/when the US will demand that men must be allowed to compete Europe-wide in women’s sports, or face sanctions against European sports teams that won’t go along. Then you spout on about how the US is ‘protecting’ trans women and ensuring ‘inclusion’ in everything.
