Apple has reportedly suspended work on its next-gen high-end Vision Pro, focusing instead on a cheaper model intended for release in late 2025.

Wayne Ma and Qianer Liu for The Information:

Apple has told at least one supplier that it has suspended work on its next high-end Vision headset, an employee at a manufacturer that makes key components for the Vision Pro said. The pullback comes as analysts and supply chain partners have flagged slowing sales of the $3,500 device.

The company is still working on releasing a more affordable Vision product with fewer features before the end of 2025, the person involved in its supply chain and a person involved in the manufacturing of the headsets said. Apple originally planned to divide its Vision line into two models, similar to the standard and Pro versions of the iPhone, according to people involved in its supply chain and former Apple employees who

MacDailyNews Take: Apple Vision Pro will seem much more Pro when there’s an Apple Vision on the market (as likely should’ve been at the device’s initial launch).

  1. I love my AVP; it is worth every penny. I use it from 4 to 6 hours a day. It is a great productivity tool and an amazing way to consume content. I only take 3-D videos with my iPhone these days.

  2. Unbelievable–sort of. Except for tv shows, thinner/reduced size models, emoji libraries, climate initiatives and “colored” watch-faces, this company retracts, stalls and sticks forks in more projects of note, than it starts and finishes. Jobs’ acknowledgement of and skill in dismissing seemingly “good ideas” before launching, is surely lacking. A company drift…keep watch for icebergs.

  3. Hilarious! “Apple has told a key supplier…”

That’s funny. Apple doesn’t tell any suppliers jack squat about any product development – ever! Ha!

What Apple will do is not order more of this or that and a supplier can draw its own conclusions but that’s all.

It should actually say “Apple has ceased buying xyz cutting edge component from said supplier recently. What that means for a Vision Pro is anyone’s guess, but we believe…”

  4. If Apple feels it must do a cheeper AVP then it really should do a two tiered approach: a cheep, consumer one and a “pro” one.

The “pro” one can keep evolving every couple years with cutting edge tech for people that need it and can use it (think 3D modeling of very complex items that can physically be manipulated like in the Iron Man movies). Over time even the “pro” version will get lighter and less obtrusive.

Then Apple can have a cheeper, lighter, and physically smaller line that folds in that new tech 2-4 years later.
