Gene Munster’s ears just pricked up; welling up in his eyes, a misty look of longing. A writer over at What Hi-Fi? on Wednesday suggested that Apple should make an OLED TV.
Alastair Stevenson for What Hi-Fi?:
This month there’s been a lot of talk about Apple’s latest “home cinema in a hand”, the new iPad Pro OLED… I can’t help but feel a slight feeling that, as cool as the new iPad Pro looks, Apple should go in a very different direction with its next device. Specifically, it should make a full-fat OLED TV.
The reason I’m saying my wish out loud is that Apple has done all the background work it needs to create a really good OLED TV.
First, there’s the existence of the Apple TV streaming box and Apple TV+ content platform. Apple TV boxes have consistently delivered great user experiences and picture quality whenever we’ve got them in for review… Despite its age the Apple TV 4K remains the best streaming box on the market, which is why it won a What Hi-Fi? Award in 2023.
Apple is also now firmly in the content creation business thanks to the arrival of its Apple TV+ subscription service. Apple is responsible for several brilliant shows including Ted Lasso and Masters Of The Air.
Third, Apple has a solid track record with picture quality… Apple knows how to make screens that are accurate to what the director intended. If Apple took the same approach to a TV that it did on these categories, it could make a great TV for any serious home cinema fan.
Fourth and finally, is the fact it’s already designing great home cinema audio products. The HomePod 2 has a stereo speaker functionality that lets you turn two of them into a cracking home cinema audio system.

An Apple-branded TV with built-in FaceTime, 6-speaker Spatial Audio system, OLED, HomeHub would be a great buy.
A display is just the output device. the final stop to all that happens before it (much like a printer).
Apple does great heavy lifting with Apple TV 4K. LG or Sony (which uses LG’s panels), both have done an outstanding job on the display side. Hook up an Apple TV 4K to either OLED brand and there you go.
How can Apple add to this, save for slapping the Apple TV 4K into the display, locking it in, and now next time you upgrade your Apple TV 4K it’ll be an external box…
And if it costs $1,000 more vs an LG OLED or Sony OLED and Apple TV 4K box, what’s the point?
TV’s are a nascent legacy market that have matured greatly. How Apple diving in and charging $1k+ more for their set changes anything, I don’t get it…
Would be strongly interested if the HT audio system was “built-in” and the product basically worked like an iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Mac.
I bought a very nice 65″ LG OLED. So much crap and annoyances – I shut off its WiFI so it would stop reminding me to update the TV, even though I shut off the update function. The processor is ridiculously slow, even for a current model. The UI/UX is terrible. An ALL APPLE product would just be so nice. Yes FaceTime built in!
If an Apple 65″ MSRP was $3799, then street price would probably be $3.4k. Sale price would be $3k or $2850. Figure an LG 65″ OLED best sale price might be $1400 – best case. Add in HT speakers ~$1k, video camera, great picture quality, and the simplicity of the Apple experience and you are getting pretty close to parity.
It’s Apple, why should they settle for OLEDs. They would probably want to go with Samsung’s QLED tech and not have to worry about color degradation over time.

Or even better, use Samsung’s QD-OLED tech before most other OEMs.

$3,000 for a 55″ is way too much.
$1,599 max
There isn’t enough demand at those prices and the profit margins aren’t there otherwise. Apple doesn’t sell big bulky things, they sell mobile devices or slim, light desktops. Their biggest product is the briefcase-sized Mac Pro. Imagine people returning these things, there isn’t enough space in Apple Stores to stuff all of these into. Like most tech products, TV packaging is 3-4x the volume of the product itself. Shipping would also be more expensive and damage would be much more common.
The market is already full of top-notch OLED TVs. Diversify your interests in life!
So an Apple TV called the Apple TV?
So..
Apple TV 4K
Apple TV App
Apple TV+
And a “The” Apple TV…. Apple TV.
I wonder why Apple TV has never really taken off.
The suggestion that Apple could leverage their expertise in picture quality and home cinema audio, demonstrated through products like the HomePod, to create an exceptional viewing experience is particularly intriguing same as in https://nba2kapk.org/. Personally, I believe that Apple’s entry into the OLED TV market would not only benefit consumers by offering a high-quality product but also further solidify Apple’s position as a leader in consumer electronics. I’m eager to see if Apple takes this suggestion seriously and look forward to the potential innovation it could bring to the TV industry.
