Apple’s big Oscars hope “Killers of the Flower Moon,” nominated which received 10 nominations, among the most of any movie at the 96th Academy Awards, was shut out.

Dawn Chmielewski for Reuters:

“Oppenheimer”… about the father of the atomic bomb claimed wins in several major categories, including the best director Oscar for Christopher Nolan, lead actor for Cillian Murphy and supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.

Disney’s Searchlight division scored five Oscars. Four of them went to “Poor Things,” the reimagining of the Frankenstein story, which earned a best actress honor for Emma Stone.

Netflix received a single award, for director Wes Anderson’s 39-minute live action short, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.”

Apple was shut out of Sunday’s winners.

MacDailyNews Take: “Killers of the Flower Moon,” from the talent assembled to the subject matter, was designed specifically to win Academy Awards. That it still fell short shows you can’t always follow a template to land Oscars and always be successful.

  1. Thank you for a correct response. I had zero interest in the Killers of the Flower Moon, despite the stellar cast. Oppenheimer was the best movie with the best cast, the best director with the best soundtrack. It had issues in the last hour with RDJ’s character, but for the most part, a masterpiece.
