Apple appears to be preparing to rebrand its ubiquitous Apple ID as “Apple Account,” MacRumors reports citing “sources familiar with Apple’s work.”
Marko Zivkovic for MacRumors:
Apple is experimenting with the new Apple Account name, and it could be introduced as soon as this year.
The rebrand from Apple ID to Apple Account is expected to occur later in 2024, likely alongside the release of iOS 18 (Codename Crystal) and macOS 15 (Codename Glow). System applications will receive modifications to reflect the change, as will Apple’s website — assuming the company chooses to implement the new branding.
It is currently unclear why Apple is considering this change, and it’s important to consider that Apple often has multiple marketing names ready before new services or products launch… Consequently, there is a possibility that we may not see the Apple Account branding come to fruition…
MacDailyNews Take: Whatever, as long as it finally delivers the ability to merge “Apple Accounts.”

…why Apple?
Why change something that isn’t broken? Apple ID is as common now as ‘coke’ or ‘Kleenex’. Now some douche want’s to make their mark and recreate the wheel.
Why not call it iDisk or Dot Mac?

This is innovation, Tim Cook Style.
This is moving the needle in the days of a curious Apple. What catalyzed leadership to think this was a pertinent matter? Project Titan closed and Apple ID being renamed…in the same week. Time for a nap.
I still prefer MobileMe to iCloud…
I’m still grieving because iWeb is no more. It was an amazing offering, when Apple still felt “personal.” No corporation has such an offering…unless they make you the product.
They need to finally make it possible to merge old non-apple IDs/emails with current apple ID.
