Apple’s new M3-powered 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to be introduced at a special media event in March.

Chance Miller for 9to5Mac:

The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models coming this year will be powered by Apple’s latest-generation M3 chip inside. The updates are expected to be introduced in March, alongside new iPad Air and iPad Pro updates at a potential event. The new M3 MacBook Air models are already said to be in production ahead of that launch.

The new MacBook Air with an M3 chip should be noticeably faster than the M2-powered version. First off, the M3 chip is manufactured using a 3-nanometer fabrication process, down from the 5-nanometer fabrication on the M2 chip.

Apple says that the M3 family of chips features efficiency cores up to 30% faster than the M2 family and up to 50% faster than the M1. The performance cores of the M3 chips are up to 15% faster than the M2 chips and up to 30% faster than the M1 family.

MacDailyNews Take: We expect these new M3 MacBook Air models to offer tremendous value, offering among the best performance, build quality, and features of any Mac ever produced at its price point!

  1. That 3rd USB-C port makes a BIG difference. Still very happy with my M1 14″ MBP. I’d suggest that over either M3 Air if you can find a good deal on it. I’d love to see 4 USB-C ports (+ Magsafe). I could do without the HDMI and the SD card slot is borderline. I use the Satechi 4-port USB-C hub to turn 1 USB-C port into 3 (two SSDs and a thermal printer) with one extra that may or may not work depending on how much power what you plug into it draws.

    1. I would appreciate a 3rd USB-C port, but I’d rather have an SD card slot. That would allow for more storage of non-critical content without having to pay for Apple’s expensive non-upgradeable SSDs. But I doubt MBAs will get SD, partly because they’re quite a bit thinner than MBPs, and partly because it’s a useful product differentiator for Apple. Either way I’m not looking to upgrade—still loving my M2 MBA, despite its 2 USB-C ports and no SD slots…
