“Apple has issued a recall for a ‘limited number’ of faulty USB-C charging cables, which were included with MacBook$1,289.00 at Amazon computers through June 2015,” Angela Moscaritolo reports for PC Magazine. “Affected cords ‘may fail due to a design issue,’ the company said. ‘As a result, your MacBook may not charge or only charge intermittently when it’s connected to a power adapter with an affected cable.'”
“The company is now offering all eligible customers a free replacement cord. The recall also covers Apple USB-C charging cables that were sold as a standalone accessory,” Moscaritolo reports. “Affected cables have the words “Designed by Apple in California” followed by “Assembled in China” stamped on them. The new, redesigned cables include a serial number after that text.”
“If your cable includes a serial number, you’re good to go,” Moscaritolo reports. “If not, you may be eligible for a replacement.”
