“It has been a slow start for Google Inc.’s smartwatches,” Rolfe Winkler reports for The Wall Street Journal. “Research firm Canalys says just 720,000 smartwatches powered by Android Wear, Google’s operating system for wearable devices, shipped in the last six months of 2014.”
Winkler reports, “Sales were crimped by a dearth of apps for the watches.”
“‘Android Wear is not very good,’ said Daniel Matte, a Canalys research analyst,” Winkler reports. “Many consumers may be waiting for the Apple Watch, expected in April, said Chad Taylor, product manager at Abt Electronics, a retailer outside Chicago. ‘I think Apple is going to set the standard, like they do with so many other devices.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Apple froze the smartwatch market, as planned, and they will take effectively all of the best customers and leave the dreck for the also-rans, just as Apple has done with personal computers, portable media players, smartphones, and tablets.
