BusinessKorea warns of ‘huge potential recall’ of 128GB iPhone 6 Plus units

“Functional defects in some of Apple’s latest smartphones have been observed,” BusinessKorea claims. “According to overseas IT news sites on Nov. 2, problems have been reported related to data storage in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ [sic].”

“Some in the industry point out that considering that technical defects mainly occur in the 128GB version of the iPhone 6 Plus, there might be a problem in the controller IC of triple-level cell (TLC) NAND flash,” BusinessKorea claims. “As numerous reports of low read performance of the Samsung SSD 840 and 840 EVO using TLC NAND flash have surfaced on the Internet, a problem in the controller IC is considered to be the more likely cause of the defects. As the controversy over the SSD 840 and 840 EVO grew, Samsung embarked on firmware upgrades.”

BusinessKorea claims, “Some in the industry think that if TLC flash is indeed the cause of the defects, Apple might recall all of the products that have been sold so far.”

  1. It’s a voluntary recall. Folks will return their iPhone 6 Plus next year for the next best thing … an iPhone 7 with NO Samsung parts.

In other news, Korean carmaker Hyundai was fined in excess of $100 million USD for falsifying US MPG ratings.

  2. The cynicism is laughable as well and also disingenuous to the people who paid good money ($700+) for a phone that is blue screening and stuck on a blue screen boot loop. The users on Apples large and continually growing support thread who’s phones are legitimately affected by this doesn’t care about Samsung or Korean reports, they care that their phone is fixed and that they get what they pay for. They paid for a working device; not some cynical judgements from people because their love of Apple blinds them to reality of issues some users are experiencing.

    1. Michael, can you provide a link to this thread? This is the first I’ve heard of such a problem, which seems unlikely, but I’m willing to look if you’ll point me to the site.

    2. Anonymous Michael Perry: The skepticism expressed on this forum is for BusinessKorea’s warning over a “huge potential recall.” This warning occurs in lockstep with a South Korean regulatory warning regarding iPhone subsidies. Given the FUD that routinely floats around Apple products, it is natural to be skeptical of such “news.” It has turned out to be total crap so many, many times in the past.

If there is a legitimate issue with the iPhone 6/Plus 128 GB, then you have my sympathy. Based on Apple’s track record of customer support, the company will likely address it fairly quickly. Apple does screw up sometimes and has occasionally been a laggard in responding to a legitimate product issue. But I have far more confidence in Apple to square things up than any other electronics company.

    3. …”laughable and also” – strike “as well”. “Apple’s” with an apostrophe. …”whose phones”, not who’s. Users…”don’t”, not “doesn’t”. …working device, not some [comma, not semicolon].

I think we’ve got a BusinessKorea writer here.

  3. Low life samdung…
This is your third attempt to spread fud and discredit iphone 6+..
    Give it up…
You are looking more and more pathetic as each day goes by !
Now you are also trying to change regulation through the givernemt to make iphone more expensive in korea ?
Lol…. get the message samdung ….People prefer the real thing, not your piece of knock off crap!

    Get a life samdung !
