As Apple’s iPhone 6 freezes market, Samsung cuts Galaxy phone orders by as much as 25%

According to a report from Korean-language UDN, non-Apple smartphone makers are facing a tough 3rd quarter and are being forced to adjust inventory in repsonse.

Supply chain sources told UDN that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 shipment target was reduced from from 21 million in the 2nd quarter to 15 million in the 3rd quarter while Galaxy S4 unites were also reduced from 6 million to 5 million units. As Samsung Galaxy series smartphones see lower sales, Samsung processor and panel supply chain’s performance will also be negatively affected.

Apple iPhone 6 is already affecting the 3rd quarter smartphone market, according to the UDN report, as industry sources believe that consumers are likely waiting for Apple to unveil their next-gen iPhone. This pause in the market is negatively affecting sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and S5, causing Samsung to cut Galaxy Samsung S5 supply chain vendor orders by as much as 25%.
