Apple seeds OS X Mountain Lion Golden Master to developers (with video)

“Apple released the Golden Master (GM) version of OS X Mountain Lion to developers today,” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors.

“The ‘golden master’ designation indicates that this version of the software is intended to be the final version released to the public, barring any last-minute issues,” Kim reports. “The Build is 12A269.”

Kim reports, “Mountain Lion will be priced at $19.99 and released to the Mac App Store in July.”

  1. Although I do indeed like the convenience and the price of using the App Store, I very much miss the experience of standing in line with hundreds of other MacHeads the day a new OS premiers.

    1. For me it was fun when the FedEx driver would pull up and you’d see a truck-full of identical packages. I later found out that these were special “Jaguar” or “Leopard” delivery routes for Day 1 deliveries.

  2. I’d gladly pay $129.00 for a Mac OS sans the social networking kiddie krap, iOS nonsense, and total lack of quality assurance exhibited in Lion (and likely Mountain Lion) for the stability and productivity found in previous releases of the Mac OS any day of the week.

      1. +1

Snow Leopard is probably the last great Mac OS.

Lion is just another iOS like interface for all those that need to socialize on the computer. Doesn’t do much for creating or working on a Mac.

        BTW. No iCal for you.

        1. I agree. Lion has a lot of terrible bugs, a bastardized UI (a la ditching real scrollbars) and touted features which don’t work as advertised on all Macs, like AirDrop. If you ask me, Mountain Lion will be the Snow Leopard to Lion as Snow Leopard was to Leopard. But even ML won’t work on Macs, specifically some Mac Pros that could probably still run it. For those of us who bought into Lion and put up with a rather lousy experience, ML should be able to run on anything Lion could. $20 is a nice price, but considering Apple hasn’t even bothered to release any new Mac Pros in ages, I have to start to consider building a Hackintosh in the future which would probably run ML just fine, since my 2006 Mac Pro obviously can’t.

        2. I respectfully disagree with you. I don’t have Twitter or FB accounts or any other so-called social accounts. No iCloud to speak of. I’m probably very much in the minority in those respects. However, I find that Lion has indeed been a pleasant upgrade to Snow Leo, and I’m looking forward to Mtn. Lion simply because I like to have the latest, which is at an extremely attractive price.

    1. I’m hoping they get it righter too, and I wouldn’t miss all the kiddy-candy either. I see the translucent menu bar is still there. It looked like the contrast of everything had been turned down a little (not the good direction) from Lion, but that might have just been the quality of the video.

    2. I’ve been running Mtn Lion for a few months now, and I like it a great deal. I also run Lion and have enjoyed using it as well. It’s been stable and reliable.

Dare I call you a “troll”?

      1. I’m happy for you. But your experience doesn’t ignore the fact that Apple’s quality control has been less than stellar of late. It also ignores the fact that features like Game Center and all the social networking nonsense offer little in the way of true OS improvements that enhance productivity for those who use our computers to make a living.

Troll? Not at all. But if my post got your panties twisted in a bunch that much, I’d recommend you get some help, Arnold.

        1. Unless you are:

          1) A game developer
          2) A developer where social integration into your app is key
          3) A professional blogger
          3) Not a Microsoft troll

If you can’t think outside your momma’s basement and see real world benefits for these enhancements you likely are from MS.

          Buh

        2. Now, there’s a real intelligent answer.

You should really think about growing up. Otherwise, it’s doubtful you’re life is going to amount to much.

        3. Mark is right, some of us actually do work on our Macs for a living. Apple thrived in the 90s and early 2000s because of professionals who bought their hardware and supported them.

If I can build a decent Mac these days for less than a Mac Pro but is more up-to-date and would likely run ML faster than the fastest Mac Apple sells, why should I bother supporting Apple anymore? I love working in OS X over Windows anyway, but lately Apple is just making some dumb mistakes and are causing some of those people, like me, to question whether or not they’ll stay committed to the Mac in conjunction with the non-consumer market.

Lion is just a mess if you’re not someone who just casually surfs the internet and/or uses iTunes.

        4. Oh get serious Jim R. Apple did not thrive in the 90’s! Your a troll or an idiot. I love the way OSx is moving and I “work” on my Mac and play as well. Apples greatest growth market is ios so it only makes sense to begin integrating the two os’s.

        5. Thrive – to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances.

Only the ignorant call others trolls or idiots. And it’s “OS X”, not “OSx”. Get it right.

        1. Not sure how you’re adding it to your dock, but for me it creates the same @ mounted on a spring icon that Apple has been using since OS X debuted. I’m just dragging the icon next to the url to the Dock.

  3. “Apple is a mobile device company.” – Steve Jobs

“We have driven the truck into the ditch.” – Steve Jobs

“We actually don’t give a flying fsuk about real computers.” – SJ

  4. Not since Jehovah handed down the original tablets to Moses has Earth been so blessed. Apart from Jesus, I mean. And maybe some other stuff I don’t know about. But this is important!

  5. Hey Apple, we need a powerful iOS… iOS 6 was disappointed… Focus on iOS 7, iCloud, Photo Stream…
Mountain Lion? who cares. What’s next? An ultimate OS X Classic would be cool with no big events… just an app update.

  6. I’ve got an open mind for ML but lion has only been OK. SL was the high point for me.

The whole “versions” system has been a joke. To this day I have to pause and think for a moment when I want to save a copy of a file. I’m not convinced this is “progress”
