“It’s new iPad week, or at least it will be come Friday when the new Apple iPads start landing in the hands of customers,” Joanna Stern reports for ABC News.
“The launch stock of the much-anticipated tablet is already depleted. Apple’s online store shows that the new tablet will now ship in two to three weeks,” Stern reports. “Those who ordered immediately will receive their tablets on Friday, with some people already reporting that boxes have already arrived at their local FedEx locations.”
Stern reports, “Apple hasn’t announced the exact time the tablets will go on sale at retail stores on Friday, but because the immediate online stock is sold out, lines are expected to be long. And in typical Apple-product-launch fashion, they have already started to form at some stores. Slashgear, a popular technology blog, has already spotted two in line at Apple’s store in London.”

Killian Bell reports for Cult of Mac, “Back in October, when the iPhone 4S launched in Hong Kong, police were called to break up the riots that occurred outside of Apple retail stores as scalpers attempted to force their way into the lines ahead of genuine customers. To ensure it doesn’t happen again, Apple has warned scalpers not to queue up for its new iPad on Friday.”
“The company has left notices outside of its flagship store in the IFC Mall in Hong Kong, telling customers that the new iPad will not be sold on a first-come, first-served basis,” Bell reports. “It reads: ‘No staying or queueing up here. Apple will not serve on a first come first serve basis for new iPad. Please refer to Apple’s official website for the detailed arrangement.'”
Bell reports, “However, neither the system or the notices are deterring hopeful iPad customers. The lines continue to build ahead of Friday’s launch, with Engadget China reporting that scalpers are camped out outside of the IFC Mall despite warnings from the police demanding that they move on.”
