Microsoft exec hints at Windows 8 release in October 2012

“Over in Vegas at CES, Pocket-lint has been given its strongest indication yet that Microsoft will launch Windows 8 in October 2012,” Paul Lamkin reports for Pocket-lint. “Discussing the launch time frame during a briefing and demo session of the next-gen OS Janelle Poole, director of public relations of the Windows Business Group, said:”

We haven’t talked about the release date and we generally don’t. We are talking milestone to milestone, so for us right now we’re talking about the next milestone being the consumer preview happening in late February. One of the things that I think is a good guideline though is we’ve always said that Windows releases come round about every three years and this year will be three years in October since we launched Windows 7. So I think that’s a good guideline to consider.

MacDailyNews Take: Bring it on!

As we wrote back on June 1, 2011:

Microsoft, in trying to cram everything into Windows 8 in an attempt to be all things to all devices, will end up with an OS that’s a jack of all trades and a master of none (which, after all, ought to be Microsoft’s company motto). By the time this hybrid spawn of Windows Phone ’07 + Windows 7ista actually ships, one can only dream where Apple’s iOS and Mac OS X will be! For Microsoft, it’ll be more like a nightmare… From what we’ve seen so far, Windows 8 strikes us as an unsavory combination of Windows Weight plus Windows Wait… As if they needed it: More good news for Apple.
