“The loss of its exclusive contract to sell the Apple iPhone apparently has not been the detriment to AT&T that many expected,” Brian Deagon reports for Investor’s Business Daily.
“On Wednesday, AT&T said it expects the fourth quarter to be its strongest smartphone sales quarter ever, due partly to customers upgrading to the new Apple iPhone 4S,” Deagon reports. “AT&T said it has sold 6 million smartphones in the first two months of the fourth quarter. That’s close to its total sales of 6.1 million smartphones in all of Q3.”
Deagon reports, “John Stephens, AT&T senior executive vice president and CFO, in comments made Wednesday at an investors conference in New York said iPhone sales remain strong, partly due to current customers who upgraded to the newer iPhone. AT&T previously said it activated more than 1 million 4S iPhones in the first five days the device was available, a company record.”
