“Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), chairman of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, said Wednesday he would hold a hearing to look into reports that Facebook tracks its users on the Web after they log out,” Jessica Guynn blogs for The Los Angeles Times.
“Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said the company uses cookies to personalize content and keep accounts secure,” Guynn reports. “‘When someone logs off of Facebook, we delete certain cookies and reduce the amount of information we receive when the person visits websites that contain social plug-ins such as the Like button,’ he said in an emailed statement. ‘We have made these practices clear in our Privacy Policy and Help Center since the launch of social plug-ins. We appreciate Sen. Rockefeller’s interest in protecting consumer privacy and look forward to discussing this with him.'”
Guynn reports, “He also said that Facebook does not sell users’ information to third parties and deletes or anonymizes data within 90 days.”

Cue First 2010, Then 2012 to provide the usual pointless, un-Apple related comments who only says anything on political articles.
Troll
TigerIdiot,
First 2012 is a true American patriot, not some blood sucking leach liberal, scum bag loser, that wants to destroy the US and turn it into a worse socialist nightmare than it has already become. These government democrats and RHINO republicans do not have anything good in store for us, its obvious. What this idiot Rockefeller should be doing is investigating all of the countless crimes that are being committed against the American people on a daily basis by this out of control liberal government. There’s obviously a mountain of other corruption problems as well. Not to mention the reports of congress members engaging in insider trading. There are a lot of bad people running the show right now and we need to vote them all out next year. You clueless libs are a big part of the problem. Wake up.
That would be RINO…
Republican in name only… No H in the term.
First 2010/2012 has a valid point at times, but most times he does just troll.
As a conservative myself, he gets annoying pretty fast.
I’m sure he knew that. Have you heard of auto correct on iPads or iPhones??? Typos are more common these days.
It’s a sad day when trolling a computer website makes someone a “true American patriot.”
Why is it sad? Because he doesn’t support your liberal agenda?
Um. No. Because trolling websites isn’t a patriotic act. It even ranks below bumper stickers in terms of patriotism.
You would know, libtard.
@Street Cred
Thanks for proving my point. Calling people names, defining your political opponents as enemies, etc. None of this is either patriotic or helpful
Jon-You’re calling people trolls. Eff off you Democrat-Union lover!
@ Los
the USA was founded by a bunch of liberal rebels who actively “occupied” and revolted against the establishment.
how sad it is that you equate First 2012 and his ilk to being an American patriot.
for every clueless lib, there is brainwashed wingnut. add the two toether, and you get gridlocked partisan politics that ensures economic malaise for everyone. Los, might i recommend that you withhold your vitriolic rhetoric and instead use reason and logic to propose solutions to what you see as destruction of the US? Because if you don’t, we intelligent independents will definitely not support your party next year. Be civilized or find your own island.
US was founded by liberals??? That’s a new one. It never would have been formed if that were the case. Los is correct.
@ Nina: Despite the modern bizarre interpretation that conservatism means “small government”, conservatism actually means, “resist change, conserve things as they exist today.”
yes, for the most part, the founding fathers of the USA were politically liberal. some were religiously/socially conservative, but even there many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were agnostic, deist, or atheist.

“The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution”, by Bernard Bailyn. Bailyn makes extensive use of historic pamphlets and journals to explore the reasons that the revolution occured. It thoroughly discredits the simplistic myth that colonists were merely upset about taxation and representation and very clearly shows highly progressive intellectuals leading the people to rise up against the crown: “Most importantly, colonists focused on the inevitable necessity for the individual to give up certain liberties or rights in subjection to power. Colonial leaders agreed about the necessity of a strong government to protect the general public against the natural ‘depravity of mankind.’” The colonists in the end were tired of waiting for the crown to act responsively to their local needs.
Likewise, today, progressive and moderate citizens demand better accountability, transparency, and efficiency in our government. Self-proclaimed “conservatives” seem to want to either dismantle our national government or turn it over to the highest bidders. Self-proclaimed “liberals” are naïvely thinking they can exercise their constitutional rights to effect better responsiveness within existing systems of government. They fail to realize that the system of goverment is no longer a republic by the people for the people: it is a corporatocracy for by the executives, for the executives.
+10 Mike. You save me some typing. F10T12 and his ilk use labels and meaningless rhetoric designed to stir up emotion rather than rational thought.
F10T12 and company…here’s a challenge for you.
Show me with valid numbers how the GOP plans to balance the budget while cutting taxes and maintaining defense spending at its current level of well over $0.5T per year… Where and how do you intend to cut to make the numbers balance? Or are you afraid to say because it would cost you votes? (And don’t use unrealistic growth predictions, either.)
I believe that significant cuts in the defense budget are a necessary starting point for balancing the overall U.S. budget. And I would also support modest increases in tax rates (i.e. rollback the misguided Bush tax cuts) in combination with spending cuts as part of a well-reasoned and realistic approach to balancing the budget. Try some moderation for a change.
Hey Queen Smell,
Stick your “show me” where the sun don’t shine. No one needs to waste our time showing you or any of you brainwashed liberals a damn thing. Liberals are destroying the US, along with crony capitalism, and RINOS. The science has been proven as Al “Global Warming” Gore loves to say. Except in this regard it’s true. There’s a great link here that can explain the vast majority of liberal created hell right here:
Educate yourself. Then GTH.
Hey Senator, perhaps you’ll want to focus some of this scrutiny on the internet censorship scheme the MPAA is trying to ram through as law? Particularly as the MPAA representatives have openly admitted they’re looking at China as an example of what they want.
We sure could use some tough questions from folks like you, directed at the Chinese-censorship-loving MPAA spokespeople – ideally, *before* you rubber-stamp their naked power-grab into law.
We have made these practices clear in our Privacy Policy and Help Center
In language only understandable to someone with a law degree, I’m sure.
Spade, 1 on your post.
