“Sources in Apple’s overseas supply chain have reportedly indicated that the company’s forthcoming fifth-generation iPhone could be a more significant upgrade than previous rumors have suggested, sporting a larger display and thinner design,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.
Analyst Shaw Wu with Sterne Agee said in a note to investors, “‘It turns out that we are picking up that this interim iPhone refresh in the fall timeframe could be a bigger upgrade than we expected. We believe this keeps the iPhone fresh and competitive and helps maintain its leadership position,'” Hughes reports. “He said that supply chain sources have indicated that the new iPhone will feature a slightly larger display than the current 3.5-inch screen found on the iPhone 4. The fifth-generation iPhone is also expected to feature the same dual-core A5 processor already found in the iPad 2.”

Hughes reports, “While Wu expects the new iPhone to have a bigger screen and thinner profile, checks within the supply chain have said that the fifth-generation iPhone is not expected to have 4G-LTE high-speed wireless data connectivity. The new technology still has issues with battery life and network coverage, problems that Wu believes Apple will fix at some point in the future.”

Shaw Wu is a joke. he reads Apple rumor blogs and then posts that same news as investor note and claims that he got the info from “Sources” in supply chain.
What’s a joke is people like you and sites like this perpetuating rumours. Next gen iPhone will be a minor upgrade! Next gen iPhone will only get a speed bump and be called 4S! Next gen iPhone will be a major upgrade!
Shut up.
Disgruntled, lately? What is a joke is people like you replying to a very reasonable post, ranting about something that really isn’t that important. It would be great if you could find another forum that isn’t a “joke” to you.
Are you certain that you have taken your meds today?
Reasonable King of the Melvins? Nothing is reasonable about sheep that follow a herd.
Are you serious? Is everything alright with your head? And do you even understand what was written in the comment?
If you are not one of the people waiting for iPhone 5 what are you doing here…
Its because fdssdfa is Shaw Wu and he’s pissed at the comment and maybe off his meds too.
Doubtful…
iPhone 5 will come with a more powerful processor than the iPhone 4? That comes as a total surprise.
They should make an iPhone with exactly half the screen size of an iPad. I’ll buy a bigger pair of pants to compensate. 🙂
They need to bring back the parachute pants from the 80’s. I’d buy two of those, one for each side.
The iPhone 4 as it is amazing the only drawback for me is it speaker and microphone .
Pls make 2 outputs for speakers .
Other than that the form factor is just perfect.
It’s highly improbable the iPhone will have two speakers when the iPad only has a single set.
Yeah, and a serial port too!
The speakers are horrible. Ok for ringer but not good for listening to music. Unless in a quite room. I can’t hear nothing at my work (Outside of a car dealership). If it wasn’t for the ringer sound effect I downloaded from garage band effects, I wouldn’t even hear the ringer.
Actually, I find the speakers on my iPhone 4 pretty decent. I travel a lot for business and used to drag around a battery operated speaker with me. Of course, I have headphones for serious listening and the plane, but for listening to music before I sleep, my iPhone is good enough.
You’re cool
Pardon my ignorance on this issue but can someone comment on the 4G issue. First, the statement in the article “Wu believes Apple will fix” indicates the lower battery life on 4G is an iPhone issue. Is it Apple or the 4G service itself?
Last, I have scanned a few articles on 4G speed. Is it a major improvement over 3G? Is it real or theoretical?
Thanks!
Hi macassarus! …
I have the answers for you!
But first, please tell me your thoughts on Adobe Flash..
Thanks! –
– Correctu.
Macassurus, I’d love to get some clarification from someone on those areas too. And Correctu; in answer to your question, it’s irrelevant and a waste of time – as was your post.
Erm, apologies Correctu – I’ve just got the gist of your comment. That was pretty damn cryptic! Still, the last horse finally crosses the finish line – please ignore my last post!
Personally I don’t care for 4G yet. My friend has a Thunderbolt and the battery life is horrendous.
@correctu
My thoughts have really not changed much. Adobe Flash is still a major video force and extremely useful on certain types of sites. I would guess it is used on 90%+ of the websites that use streaming video. Until it is not, my iPad2 will not display the content. I wish it did. There are many times when I go to a website on my iPad2 that has a big section that does not have content. It is because of the missing Flash. While iPad does not need any help selling more units, I know a significant selling point being made by retail sales people for the competition is “iPad does not have Flash”. There are a lot of other annoying things regarding the lack of Flash on my ipad2. But, you work with the imperfections. As for my business, I own more several hundred active websites. Most use Flash. To go back and retro fit them for HTML5 or Javascript would be totally impractical. SInce a week or so after the Job’s Manifesto, we have been building sites that use Javascript instead of Flash. It is not as cost effective. But, it is workable.
So, those are my thoughts. I think Apple was very premature in not offering support for Flash. I believe a lot of other people agree. Maybe not on this forum. But, in general.
Regarding the 4G, I got my answer already. But, thanks for your help.
If Adobe had developed Flash properly after buying Macromedia, then it might have had a chance on iOS. But SJ called Adobe’s bluff a long time ago and I’m still waiting for the promised answer to those criticisms. Adobe blew its chance, IMO.
“developed Flash properly” according to who? Talk to the millions of internet users who go to Flash sites that do not work on their iOS devices. Just because you do not care if Flash works or not is not really the global issue. When there is a viable alternative that allows for the mass number of sites to easily convert from Flash to this new technology, then the average consumer will be happy. Now…they get a wet spot on a website that Apple could have prevented.
You guys that cry about Flash are the same numbnuts that talk about how bloated and poorly programmed MS Office is. Hang MS!! Hang Adobe!! Stop using their products!! Get a petition…we’ll all sign it!! Boycott!!!
@Gunfighter27
Sorry for my post on your thread. I meant to answer correctu above.
The current 4G chip is huge. The next generation will be much smaller and hopefully not run as hot or be as big a battery drain. That would be the perfect time for Apple to update the iPhone.
Since when does Apple have a problem with 4G? The technology is still new and the bugs have not been worked out. However, as soon as the respective companies solve these problems, Apple will have no issue on using 4G in the iPhone.
Coverage and battery life is the problem. Give it a couple of years to solve the coverage and one or two generations from Quallcom to fix the rest.
IPhone 5 4G is out the door, uhhh……… of Area 51.
I would add “packaging” to that list of current 4G issues. 4G coverage is growing, but is far from ubiquitous. From a design/functional standpoint, power consumption and packaging are the weak points of the current 4G chipsets. Apple made the jump from EDGE to 3G when it made sense, and Apple will do the same with 4G.
Thinner????
Please god, no!!!!
It will double as the iPhone 5 shaver. Stack several for multi-blade closeness.
I hope you get one iPhone 5 free with a four pack of multi-blade closeness.
