“Several applications designed to facilitate music piracy have unexpectedly been approved by Apple, and are currently available on the App Store,” Charles Starrett reports for iLounge.
“Music Forest (Free) and Music Forest Full ($1) from You Jinwen and Music Downloader ($1) from Chen Lunyu allow the user to search online databases of music or browse music charts—including the U.S. Billboard Top 100—then tap to download songs directly to the device,” Starrett reports. “Music Forest automatically grabs song lyrics from the Internet; and also offers AirPlay streaming support. Interestingly, the apps offer users of jailbroken devices the ability to transfer downloaded files to a computer using a desktop file browsing application such as iPhone Explorer for the Mac.”

Oops.
The main thing Android did that iPhone didn’t!!
Gee, I can download songs directly to the device now. It’s called the iTunes Store.
I guess Apple’s going to block the apps once they find out.
How does a music piracy app “accidentally” get approved??? Is anybody in that department paying any attention at all to their job??? Unbelievable!
Hey, listen. If you had to check every app approval you’d probably make mistakes to. lighten up!
Lighten up? It’s their only job, dude. People lucky enough to work at Apple should kiss the ground with thankfulness and do their damn jobs. Heaven knows there’s no shortage of replacements for anyone who isn’t sufficiently engaged to do their job conscientiously.
Just goes to show you that even Apple makes mistakes sometimes. I’m sure those apps will be removed sooner rather than later.
Flashing red “You might be a winner” ad!. I’m a winner, I’m a winner!!!.
WTF
Someone fell asleep at the app approval dept.
Just checked the app, the first free one mentioned.
Just read the reviews and checked the screenshots. Looks like you can download the songs, but have to play it in the player. Can’t play them in the iPod.
Which means if it’s on the iPhone, it can be transferred to the computer to be put in iTunes. If you know what you are doing 😉
Wow, someone messed up.
Yeah, because it’s such a good idea to transfer executables of unknown origin to your computer… the app is the hook, and music is just the bait. I think this is one ecosystem you should just throw back.
I’m talking a jailbroken iPhone, ssh in and pull the actual music file…
And the executable you talk of won’t run on any computer, just the iOS device.
I’m not getting the app anyway..
1 I dont listen to music enough to pirate the songs.
2 I wouldn’t trust the app in the first place.
@Cubert below
It looked like they pull from almost any source on the net. Look at the app in the app store.
I’m not sure Apple takes into consideration what an app will allow you to do on a jailbroken phone. Also, what databases are these apps pulling from? Are they legal? Where is the RIAA? They’ll go after a pimple-faced 14 year old or the single mother of a 10 year old in the drop of a hat but won’t take down huge databases full of illegal music?
Thanks to you guys its now been removed from the store, lucky for me then that i downloaded it before it was removed. Thanks to you losers who made big headlines about it probably a million more people have downloaded it. For those of you who haven’t grabbed it, bad luck, you can thank the bunch of wnkrs who highlighted it and subsequently caused it to be removed.
App is now gone from iTunes!
Music forest was taken off and you can’t download songs on it anymore.
you still can download just put search option on yahoo and it works now
