“A new series of claims are continuing to point to tightening supplies and an upcoming refresh of Apple’s MacBook Pro line, possibly as early as late next week,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“The first report from Italian site iSpazio claims that it has received word from an Apple employee that Apple is preparing to launch five new MacBook Pro models carrying order numbers MC720, MC721, MC723, MC724, and MC725. The five new models will reportedly span all three current MacBook Pro sizes of 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch. The new models are also said to be making their way to Apple Italy over the next few days in preparation of a launch ‘towards the end of this month,'” Slivka reports. “Remarkably similar information is being offered by another Italian site, Slide to Mac.”
Slivka reports, “We’ve [also] been watching supplies of existing MacBook Pro models tighten over the past month.”

Always exciting…
I will officially be the first one to order the new 17 inch, my current G4 mac book pro is on its last legs–can’t wait !!
rljjb, I thought that too, when I looked at the i5, i7 lineup last year.
In the end, the 15″ with higher res screen (which may logically get a bit higher this year) was more portable & with the i7, maxed RAM & SSD performed way beyond my prior MBPro.
Hence, I wouldn’t automatically discount the 15″
Perhaps the 13-inch MacBook Pro model will disappear. If this new lineup is aimed at making the “Pro” more like the new “Air,” there already is a “13-inch MacBook Pro” in the lineup.
I realize the 13-inch MacBook Air doesn’t have an optical drive, but Apple is probably going to eliminate the built-in optical drive (except in the Mac Pro) at some point. I realize it doesn’t have the latest processor type, but the 13-inch MacBook Pro has always been a spruced-up version of the economy MacBook; it was “pro” mostly in appearance, not performance or specs. The current 13-inch MacBook Air is MUCH better than the current low-end white MacBook.
The current 13″ MBA is almost but not quite suitable for use by professional photographers on location. It has adequate processing power, but the one thing that’s lacking is a Firewire port, which is needed for both high-speed storage and tethering a camera. There is a market (me!) for a 13″ MBP with an upgraded graphics card and a Firewire port. A second hard drive or SSD would be preferable to an optical drive.
