“The model I tested is at the high end of the line, boasting a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor running at 2.8 GHz, a 1-terabyte hard drive, 4 gigabytes of memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics adapter with 1 GB of its own memory. It sells for $1,999, which seems like a lot,” Silverman reports. “I went looking for comparable Windows machines, but there’s nothing out there with this big a screen and this type of processor in an all-in-one.”
Silver man reports, “As you can imagine by the specifications, this is one fast machine. While Macs have never had a reputation for being gaming systems, this model excels at that. I installed Valve’s Steam gaming platform – which just recently began offering Mac support – as well as a native version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The iMac handled them superbly, with the eye candy turned up to 11.”
