Lockheed Martin announced today that Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and Fusion-io chief scientist will deliver the opening keynote address at MILCOM 2010.
As the premier international conference for military communications, MILCOM brings together leaders from government, industry and academia to discuss and showcase the latest advancements in military communications and networking.
This year’s conference takes place October 31-November 3, 2010 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. Lockheed Martin and the Aerospace Corporation are serving as corporate hosts, in coordination with conference co-sponsors the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society.
“Steve Wozniak is a renowned technology leader and innovator, and we are pleased he will kickoff MILCOM 2010,” said Joanne Maguire, executive vice president, Lockheed Martin Space Systems and co-general chair of the conference, in the press release. “For industry, government and other stakeholders involved in communications technologies, MILCOM 2010 is the single must-attend event where we will gather to shape the future of military communications.”
A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than 30 years, Steve Wozniak has helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products, the Apple I and II, and influenced the popular Macintosh. In 1976, Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer Inc. with Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. The following year, he introduced his Apple II personal computer, featuring a central processing unit, a keyboard, color graphics, and a floppy disk drive. The Apple II was integral in launching the personal computer industry.
“MILCOM 2010 will focus on creating innovative solutions to meet the military’s global communications needs in the next decade,” said Linda Gooden, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services and co-general chair of the conference, in the press release. “We are excited that Steve Wozniak will help us launch this important conference and look forward to hearing his perspective on future military communications.”
In 2000, Wozniak was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame and was awarded the prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy and Employment for single-handedly designing the first personal computer and for then redirecting his lifelong passion for mathematics and electronics toward inspiring of excitement for education in grade school students and their teachers.
Wozniak currently serves as Chief Scientist for Fusion-io and is a published author with the release of his New York Times best selling autobiography, “Woz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon” in September 2006 by Norton Publishing.
In addition to Steve Wozniak, MILCOM 2010 will feature keynote speeches from the nation’s top military and government officials, panel presentations, tutorial sessions and over 60+ exhibitors. For more information on MILCOM 2010, visit www.milcom.org.

So where was Jobs when Wozniak was doing all the work?
@Just me:
EXCUSE ME???!!!
Meanwhile, why in the world would the Woz want anything to do with the military?
There’s a MILFCOM? I’m in!
When I said get a keynote speaker like that Steve from Apple, I was talking about THE OTHER Steve. Damn it, now were going to hear about how the Segway is going to be the best tool for the military.
@x
That’s what I thought it is when first read the headline, MILFCOM
The Woz is hosting MILFCON?
Alright, I’ll be there.
Hopefully LHM supplies him with a limo to ensue he gets there; the Prius is too unpredictable.
@Frank
Oh he’ll get there with his Prius.
The real question is whether he’ll stop!
No worries. I think he still has that Hummer in the garage.

So woz is hangin with the psychopaths now?
@Just me
He was either busy asking employees if they were Virgins or he was locked up in his office smoking blunt.
@alansky
Maybe introduce a little Mac. How can he not do the keynote and not talk about apple or it’s products.
@BluefinPro
It must of been his discovery of the cruise control. Even if the throttle got stuck, he won’t Hightail anywhere too quick with that car even if it were floored…
@MILCON Organizer
Maybe he invented Segway with a recliner chair. Just sit down, relax and let u’r A$$ expand LOL… One with a Cup holder and a Mini fridge for $100 more. Seems like he uses that segway quite often due to all that Gut he’s gained over the years.
Well, Jobs is very involve with the military too. The iPod touch has two military applications (some more) and also, P.A. Semi makes ballistic chips for missiles and some tanks.
