“I spoke with a source at Apple that says that yes, the EasyPay system [seen this holiday season as the iPod Express wireless, paperless checkout process] will become an ongoing aspect of the Apple retail experience. Evidently, it was considered a big success this holiday shopping season. And Steve Jobs believes that many people who are comfortable buying on-line–and that’s a rapidly growing percentage of the total–will not only accept but will actually prefer getting their receipts electronically,” Peter Burrows blogs for BusinessWeek.
“While the concept was well-intentioned, and the staff worked hard to make it successful, the iPod Express needs some tweaking before its rolled out again,” ifoAppleStore opines here.

How could people be afraid of marketing e-mail or spam from Apple? Since when did Apple change its name to Microsoft?
i work at an apple store and just for everyone to know, the palm sized computers all of the apple people were using to ring you up are all powered by WINDOWS CE!!!! it is not an all apple product, just some apple POS software running in a windows CE environment, and they were hardly fool proof, our system crashed many times, and we had to move the entire line of people at the station to the main registers.
I’ve been on Apple’s email list for years and barely get one or two messages a month.
“i work at an apple store and just for everyone to know,”
If you work at an Apple store, you shouldn’t be posting in forums, and particularly not telling people you work at an Apple store and giving out information.
Jessssuuuuuss Hammer, get over yourself and stop being the International censor! Mr/Mrs/Miss unknown person has as much right to talk crap on these forums as you and I do.
Nothing was given away by the statement, was it?
Lighten up man!
Cheers
Only thing is I like to have the receipt at the time of purchase in case something is rung up wrong. Going back after the fact looks like I’m trying to run a scam. have a printer set up with the option to print a receipt. Not as tree friendly, but better for your customers.
Hey, affy — Screw!
I no more believe that Mr. “unknown person” works at an Apple store than I do that woman really found a piece of meat where her son’s iPod should be.
Get a clue.
it’s true. they do run on windows, they crash frequently, take hours/days/weeks to reboot, and often still don’t work after a reboot; they are hardly “easy” – certainly harder to use than the real POS – the station consumes an ungodly amount of store space, there’s nothing indicating to customers the terms – no cash, no checks, no student or otherwise discounts, etc. the list goes on. i’m muy chagrined to hear this.
Hammer, how does it feel to be a total douche all your life?
Instead of debating whether someone should post or not, we should be looking at what was said.
Do the devices really run on Windows CE? Most likely. What else is out there?
Did Apple really have problems with them? Its Windows, what do you think?
Could Apple be using this experience to develop its own CE OS?
As crappy as Windows is, a stable, easy to use CE OS based on OSX (industry standard processors, remember?) would be an instant hit. Especially if Apple has a ready made POS application to go with it.
“unknown person” – I hope you feel guilty for daring to post on a forum and <<gasp>> saying you work at an Apple store!!! Oh, the horror? How will Apple ever defend itself against you? Powerless, I say.
My brother bought through this method at the Apple store and it worked fine for him. He was in and out of the store in less than 15 minutes. It would have been easily another 20 minutes more if he had to wait on the traditional registers.
“Hammer, get over yourself and stop being the International censor! Mr/Mrs/Miss unknown person has as much right to talk crap on these forums as you and I do”
Get over myself? How does telling someone who works at an Apple store not to post here something to get over myself over? FWIW, I DID work at an Apple store for a long time and no you cant just go on forums as an Apple employee and start spouting stuff off. It doesnt matter if the info seems insignificant to you, the point is that some people ARE obligated to keep their mouths shut regardless. Perhaps this person doesnt know this.
And FWIW, that thing IS running Windows CE, and it DOES have issues.
Courageous calling me a douche. Very courageous. Go on a forum anonymously, and call someone a douche. Nice. I laugh at you.
Hammer, I live in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. If it is possible for you to meet up with me let me know, I would love to call you a douche to your face.
If you will be in the area just let me know and we can exchange contact info.
