Apple’s new iPod great for videos

Apple’s “iPod has become the symbol of cool. There are a number of different flavors, from the 512MB, flash-based Shuffle all the way to the new 60GB hard drive-based iPod Video. You can carry anywhere from a few hundred songs to tens of thousands of songs — all on one device,” Murray Hill writes for The StarPhoenix (Canada).

“The iPod Video can do much more than its predecessors. You can carry the usual thousands of songs, audio books, photos, and blogs. But now, you can carry music videos, TV shows, movies, video blogs,” Hill writes. “Watching a movie or video on the new iPod is fun and cool, but I’m not so sure I’d sit in front of it for hours. However, it’s great for videos and shorter clips. The big thing is that all the full sized iPods are now iPod Videos, so even if you never play a movie or TV show or video, you still have all the other benefits of an iPod. If you do want to watch video, go check out the iTunes Music Store and prepare to get blown away by the number of video available for purchase to view on your new iPod.”

“Wouldn’t you know it, but right after Jobs announced that the Video would be available and that Apple had worked out a deal to offer TV shows in the iTunes Music Store; the porn market got into the game. Yes, unfortunately that’s right, you can already download porn for the iPod Video,” Hill writes.

As “Cons,” Hill writes, “You can only download and play certain kinds of video, which is available for purchase at the iTunes Store. The Video is the most costly iPod yet, with the 30Gb retailing for $379 and the 60GB retailing for $499.”
