Aspyr Media today announced Star Wars Battlefront, an open-ended single-player and multiplayer action game, has begun shipping for Macintosh and is expected to land on retail shelves by July 23rd. Star Wars Battlefront, which allows players to re-live all of the epic battles from the classic and prequel Star Wars film trilogies was developed for the Mac by Beenox Studios and licensed from LucasArts.
Players can participate in all of the memorable Star Wars battles like never before. Players can select one of the 20 different soldier types from each of the four factions: Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Army and Droid Army. Soldier types include standard infantry, scouts, heavy weapons and pilots. Each soldier has specialized abilities and the freedom to use ground-based turrets found on the battlefront as well as more than 25 diverse ground and air vehicles including the AT-ST, X-wing and speeder bike, and the massive Republic Gunship that can hold up to five different soldiers. The team-based action within Star Wars Battlefront is set in more than a dozen unique locations across 10 diverse planets including Hoth, Geonosis and Endor.
Single player modes include “Instant Action,” “Galactic Conquest” and the story-based “Historical Campaigns” mode that lets gamers experience all of the Star Wars battles from Episodes I-VI. Star Wars Battlefront is also optimized for multiplayer action online. Mac users can use GameRanger to battle it out against both Mac and PC gamers.
