  1. I got my Mom and Dad the iMac G5 1.8GHz SuperDrive for $1099 on sale this way (finally got that damn Gateway out of their house!) and I bought my Power Mac on sale, too. It’s the way I buy Macs – as Apple clears stuff out of the pipeline. Close to the latest and greatest, but for much less $$$.

  2. I’d love it if they introduced mini towers. Same processor specs as an iMac but in a smaller form factor. Say a mini Tower. Same look, just 40% smaller. Upgradeable graphics card. Room for Ram. A nIce Business machine. A couple quad machines on the high end would be great for Final cut pro users and mays users. Maybe people could even use Renderman on it.

  3. No, this will not work from Canada – you must have electricity and Internet access… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

That was just a joke, AF – I really do like Canucks!

  4. Arrgh! I knew I should’ve pulled the trigger and snagged a 2004 Dual 2.0 Power Mac G5! I think that was the best value clearance Mac desktop out there. Oh well.

    I did just that myself… ordered a iMac G5 1.8 17″ for $1099 as well… to replace a Gateway.

I hope the iMac lasts for even half the time the Gateway did. It’s a PII-350 with 100Mhz bus (bought it when the 100Mhz bus first debuted). The Gateway lasted many years, having been upgraded from Win95 to 98 to XP. Surprisingly, it performed solidly despite being ancient hardware running new software.

The Gateway was awesome, but it finally died (well the hard drive did). I was going to just buy my folks a MacMini but changed to the discounted iMac when the prices dropped.

Awesome Gateway experience. Here’s hoping the Apple iMac comes close.
