Fidelity Investments now Apple’s biggest shareholder

“Fidelity Investments, the world’s largest mutual fund firm, now is Apple Computer Inc.’s biggest shareholder. The firm boosted its shares by 9.53 million shares in the fourth quarter, bringing its stake in Apple to 5.2 percent. Fidelity’s 21.1 million Apple shares were worth about $1.36 billion at the end of last year, the firms said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission,” Matthew Keenan and Connie Guglielmo reports for Bloomberg News. “Surging sales of Apple’s iPod music player and iMac personal computer have helped make the company the top performer on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index this year.”
