Fidelity Investments now Apple’s biggest shareholder

“Fidelity Investments, the world’s largest mutual fund firm, now is Apple Computer Inc.’s biggest shareholder. The firm boosted its shares by 9.53 million shares in the fourth quarter, bringing its stake in Apple to 5.2 percent. Fidelity’s 21.1 million Apple shares were worth about $1.36 billion at the end of last year, the firms said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission,” Matthew Keenan and Connie Guglielmo reports for Bloomberg News. “Surging sales of Apple’s iPod music player and iMac personal computer have helped make the company the top performer on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index this year.”

  2. I hope this means my 401(k) managed by Fidelity is going to go up a few cents. I had a chance to buy shares of Apple at $22 back a few years ago and decided not to invest. I feel like an idiot now. In the financial sense, this means I lost a lot of money even though I didn’t spend a dime! Go figure.

  4. Off topic about share prives, BUT web traffic today is fingering the 10.3.8 update with breaking pop-ups in Safari and Firefox. Soooo for site visitors experiencing pop-ups, are you on 10.3.8, or lower?

  5. Apparently, Fidelity saw the value of a good investment
    and bought big! Good for thier Funds & good for THIER
    investors.

  6. I often had feeling that the 401Ks were made only to save companies funds – forget about tying up money in a retirement plan, as well as less management reporting charges – allow 401K fund charge, along with the worker pay the 401K.
