InterSystems introduces CACHÉ Database on Mac OS X

InterSystems Corporation today announced that its CACHÉ post-relational database is available for deployment on Mac OS X. The product was introduced at the HIMSS 2005 conference in Dallas, Texas.

The leading database provider in healthcare and number two embedded database worldwide, InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database and the Ensemble universal integration platform.

The CACHÉ database delivers a rich feature set combined with highly automated system management. CACHÉ features a Unified Data Architecture that automatically makes data available as both objects and tables, eliminating the need to synchronize data definitions or map from one form to another. In addition to enabling extremely rapid SQL development and deployment, CACHÉ offers the advanced object technology preferred for deployment in the inherently object-oriented Web environment with a complete object model, including encapsulation, polymorphism, multiple inheritance, collections, and relationships.

“CACHÉ offers the robust object database, comprehensive RAD feature set and high performance SQL that Macintosh developers need to deploy highly scalable applications across the enterprise,” said Robert Nagle, InterSystems Vice President of Software Development in the press release. “We’re very pleased to deliver the proven database capabilities critical to deploying and supporting Web transaction processing systems on the extremely popular and powerful Mac OS X platform.”

“The stability, security and ease of use of Mac OS X are major factors behind its strength in the healthcare, science and biotech industries,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations in the press release. “The Apple development community is working on a diverse range of healthcare applications and we’re excited to see InterSystems take advantage of the innovation in Mac OS X to enable next generation database solutions.”

“Ease of use and a low total cost of ownership are especially attractive in the professional office environment,” said Michael Edwards, CEO of HealthWare Corporation, an InterSystems application provider that offers office management software for dental and medical practices in the press release. “Users in small-to-mid-sized physician and dental offices have been Macintosh enthusiasts for years,” Edwards said. “Our new CACHÉ-based iMedical and iDental software running on Mac OS X will provide smaller practices with top-tier office management functionality and requires virtually no training or software administration. CACHÉ also offers the scalability and performance demanded by larger healthcare enterprises, such as dental schools,” he continued. “This enterprise-scale database running on Mac OS X is a highly cost-effective deployment platform that appeals to healthcare organizations of every size.”

Available now, CACHÉ pricing for Mac OS X starts at US $200 in a single-user version and about US $1,000 for a multi-user configuration. A free, fully functional, no-time-limit copy of CACHÉ can be downloaded or requested on CD from the InterSystems Web site.
