Freeware ‘syncOtunes’ synchronizes your iTunes libraries

You have two Mac’s. You have two iTunes libraries. You never have all your songs on each Mac…

syncOtunes from OLIGROB Software synchronizes your iTunes libraries among various Macs. Just select the iTunes library file from your first Mac. Then open the iTunes library of your second Mac through a network share. syncOtunes will compare the tracks in both iTunes libraries and creates a folder for each of your Mac’s, containing the missing song files. Then simply mport that folder into iTunes with an applescript, unneeded files are automatically trashed, and “poof” both of your Macs’ iTunes libraries are synced.

syncOtunes is freeware for Mac nd there is also a Windows beta available. More info and download link here.

  1. does it compare the actual song files? I have some songs with no artwork which i have updated on one mac but not on the other. Same goes for other tag data (year, track #, etc)

It would be great if it compiled the more recent versions of these files as well.

  2. What we need is to have Apple get off their idea of user-centric apps for iLife and redesign iTunes and iPhoto to allow for sharing of libraries. Its rediculous that I had to jump through hoops so that my wife and I could share the same Photo Album. And I’m still trying to figure out how to create a shared Music Library. The sticking point is that iTunes insists on importing cd’s into my Music folder instead of allowing me to choose a location for my library.

  3. Uhhh Jeff,

You go into your preferences and check, share music or photos (depending on which program you are using).

If that is too hard for you, then other than having Apple have some come to your home to do it, what can they possibly do?

Keyword dark : As in, it is dark in Jeff’s head cause the lights ain’t on.

  4. And Jeff, if you browse around a little in the preferences, you’ll find, under the “Advanced” icon, that you can choose your iTunes music location too….

  5. As a suggestion, why don’t you help people with questions or problems rather than ridiculing them re: Jeff is dumb.

You only come across as an elitist loser.

  6. I think that “Jeff is Dumb” didn’t understand Jeff’s question.

Jeff was wondering how he could share a single library with multiple accounts. One example would be to have a server containing your libraries while being able to access it from multiple computers.

You gave him a solution to share the content of the libraries. But this only works when iTunes and iPhoto are running and communicating with each other.

Other people have answered his question appropriately with the need to talk down, perhaps it will be a lesson learned.

MDN Magic Word: kind, as in “be kind”
