“Having remained a high-end player for years, Apple on Tuesday launched ‘Mac Mini’ in India at a price point of Rs 32,200 to address the entry-level market,” The Press Trust of India reports. “Mac Mini is primarily aimed at existing PC users who want to get started with Mac OS X and first time users, Apple’s Asia Pacific head of hardware products EY Yeo told newspersons. ‘With an attractive price point we want to attract more PC users to Mac Mini,’ he said.”
The Press Trust of India reports, “After bringing the prices of Mac and iPod down, Apple has drawn up a strategy to increase its reach in the market. US$ 499 at todays’s currency rates is 21,782 Indian rupees. Apple’s conversion. 32,200. Gee, tech support must be really expensive in India.
Hmmm. That makes it US$738 and US$109 according to my currency converter. All those Dell jobs must be working for the Indian economy, assuming an Rs is and India Rupee.
sounds good except there is already a supply issue here in the states. i know apple favors us already, but there has to be a good reason to go overseas when there are willing homegrown purchasers.
able=apple. i was talking to someone and wrote the word i was saying.
wtf? it changed to apple. im gonna stop posting now.
The higher price in India could be the result of a tarriff, which of course would be beyond Apple’s control. This would seem to make more sense than Apple charging significantly MORE for a product in a country where average incomes are significantly LESS. I doubt that there’s enough of a margin on these Minis for Apple to be able to offset the tarriff by lowering the price. Apple is not as dumb as some might think.
There is a large amount of programming going on in India these days. Maybe Apple sees this as an opportunity to pick up young developers and fortify their application base. We may see some interesting apps coming out of India in the future, this time for Mac. Who knows.
