He’s somehow got FrontRow on his MacMini! Does he have the same cracked version that I have on my G5?
Didn’t know about cmd-shift-minimize, but cmd-shit-delete dudn’t always work the first time around.
“Didn’t know about cmd-shift-minimize”
I thiink you mean cmd-option-minimize.
Option-click another app’s window or option-click the desktop. This hides the current app.
Second best tip: Command-H to Hide.
Hiding is often better than Quitting, and better than minimizing.
“but cmd-shit-delete dudn’t always work the first time around”
That will only make a mess of your chair I’m sure…
Some one should tell this guy that “hot corners” are not Expose, the function keys F9, F10. and F11 are.
But you can set your hot corners to perform Expose functions however.
In my experience, the one thing that confuses Switchers most about the Mac UI is that on a Mac, a close window button only closes the window, it doesn’t close the application. They wind up with no visible windows and a bunch of apps running, and can’t see why.
hmm. the opposite confused me about windows. But now I got it all straight. I like having just one instance of an application on my Mac. And expose makes it even easier to sort things out.
b ill, you’re right, I’ve been a Mac user for 20 years and have only really had to use Windows for the past 5 years… the close window difference still weirds me out. My wife uses Windows mostly, and so she is always leaving apps running on this Mac… and now her sister is thinking of switching from Windows. I’d like it to be as painless as possible.
Step 11. Actually enjoy your computing experience and have fun working.
I hate resizing windows on a Mac. M$ does a better job. There I said. Now I feel better. That is my biggest and maybe only Mac vs M$ gripe.
@iDon’t
I switched from Windows to Mac about a couple of months ago and I don’t miss how Windows resizes the windows.
I for one like the little drag triangle at the bottom of every window. It’s cleaner and works for every window/app.
Believe it or not, but some Windows apps actually only let you resize in the same area as the Mac.

i really dont understand why the average user would need more than 256MBs or RAM.
my iBook only has 256MB and it runs fine, and i run all kinds of stuff at once. sure 512, 768, or a gig sure would make it nice, but it runs fine.
for surfing the web, reading email, itunes whatnot, and all those normal computer tasks 256 will serve you fine.
256MB is sufficient if one has sufficient hard disk space to hold all the virtual memory paging files in /var/vm. I’m currently experiencing that on a loaned Pismo (500Mhz/256MB/20GB) and it is a little tight with only 1-2GB’s room on the hard disk.
Luckily Apple has repaired (last day of my extended warranty) my own Pismo (400Mhz/512MB/40GB) so I should be able to pick it up this avo’
Yippee!
Beavis, I meant it dudn’t always work on the first flush.
