“Chen also mentioned that the technology had evolved to enable human-machine interface, such that a virtual reality experience can be created,” Swanson reports. “Although VR is currently being used for gaming, Chen expects Force Touch to enable users in the future to feel objects that appear on their smartphone.”

MacDailyNews Take: The ability to “feel” keys on your iPad Pro and other iOS devices would help to obviate the need still felt by some for a physical keyboard. Imagine a “MacBook” whose “keyboard” is really a display.

lol…I must be using a virtual reality iPhone, iPad, tv, iMac and MacBookPro then…all this time I thought they were real.
The MDN Take does not address the fact that the angle of the iPad display dictates the orientation of the virtual keyboard, as well. That can be a problem in terms of hand/wrist ergonomics versus display viewability/glare/privacy.
Perhaps a projected virtual keyboard would be the next big thing? No need to carry a BT keyboard or use a thicker keyboard-case. Virtual keyboard on demand – that would embody Apple simplicity and elegance.
I wish you could get the portrait keyboard in landscape on an iPad. Using Numbers in landscape gives you a very short spreadsheet area to work with.
As I use the Dvorak Keyboard layout, a keyboard that could change keycap letters at will would be MOST helpful to me (though over the years I’ve gotten pretty good at ignoring the keycaps)!!
Virtual reality supply chain….is that why there weren’t any Pencils to go with the iPP?
