“Eric Schmidt, Google’s executive chairman, believes that a third of check-out terminals in retail stores and restaurants will be upgraded to allow wireless “tap and pay” from mobile phones within the next year,” Tim Bradshaw reports for The Financial Times.
“The Californian internet company announced a new ‘Google Wallet’ for its Android mobile-phone software last month, alongside partners including Sprint Nextel, the mobile operator, and MasterCard, the payments firm,” Bradshaw reports. “He added that “most [mobile-phone] vendors” have announced they will include the necessary “near-field communication” chip in their devices in the next year, referring to LG, Sony Ericsson and Apple’s rumoured new iPhone”
Bradshaw reports, “Google will make its wallet available for the iPhone if NFC is included in a future version of the device, he said.”

The financial sector should be developing this not some scunmy company that trawls people’s personal data to sell to companies.

No company should ever have this level of information on anyone.
If Google does develop an iPhone app, then I hope Apple has the quality control in place to make sure that google can’t pry into your personal info. Google would probably create a malware app just to mess up Apple’s track record on IOS security.

I’ll bet that Apple builds the NFC into the OS and will not allow third party APP access to that part of the hardware. Maybe a collaboration with the carriers in exchange for 3G FaceTime.
