“‘Cool’ was the word of the night as eager members of the Class of 2008 gathered en masse on the East Campus Quadrangle Thursday to receive their long-awaited and highly-publicized welcome gifts: 20-gigabyte Apple iPods,” Seyward Darby reports for The Duke Chronicle. “‘This is so cool,’ freshman after freshman exclaimed as they were handed boxes containing the tiny digital devices that are at the heart of the much-hyped Duke iPod First-Year Experience.”
“The option to purchase music via Apple iTunes will exist on the new website alongside explanations and warnings about the illegal downloads and copyright violations that many have said may come as a result of the iPod project. Tracy Futhey, vice-president of information technology and chief information officer for the University, said she is confident that the distribution of the iPods will not generate a new burst of music piracy on campus thanks to the website
That sucks…while its cool to be holding an iPod in your hands…you are spotted and indentified as a freshman…hmmm then again…the female upperclassmen might be attracted to the the freshmen….or is it the iPod that they are attracted to?

Maybe we can get a goverment grant to study the drop-out rate of these Duke students who will spend more time listening to music than studying.

Just great, while I’m here waiting for USC to actually inform us about the Napster thing (they’ve yet to even mention it), Duke students are picking up their iPods…
