Who’s going to ‘curate’ Apple News?

“Who’s going to ‘curate’ Apple News?” Philip Elmer-DeWitt writes for Fortune. “The marketing department, for starters.”

“For all the talk of an editorial hiring spree at Apple, things are pretty quiet in the gossipy world of tech journalism,” P.E.D. reports. “No names have surfaced in the nearly two months since Apple’s marketing department posted a job opening for ‘passionate, knowledgeable editors’ to run Apple News, the iPhone app unveiled with great fanfare (and a woman VP!) at WWDC.”

“‘I don’t know of anyone who has taken those jobs, or even applied,’ says Jason Snell, one of dozens of veteran journalists released on an already crowded market when Macworld folded,” P.E.D. reports. “Neither has 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman… As far as I know, the top spot at Apple News is still unfilled.”

MacDailyNews Take: Now, there’s a tough job that’s bound to attract more than its fair share of slings and arrows.

That said, the Apple editorial team, whoever they end of being, “will liaise with publishers, which include the Financial Times, New York Times, The Guardian and The Economist, which have signed up to provide content to the news service,” Matthew Garrahan and Tim Bradshaw reported for The Financial Times back in June.

  1. This is when we’ll learn Apple is just another corporation, when they give us processed news.

They’ll pull everything from the mainstream providers, which are run by a handful of corporations. They will NEVER question the truth of news reports. Apple will never question federal government black operations, false flag events, and coverups. They will never give us headlines from the Sonoma State news operation, “Project Censored,” or WhoWhatWhy.

Apple News will be like Wikipedia, where JFK was shot by a lone nut, flying saucers don’t really exist, and twin towers can collapse effortlessly and perfectly into their own footprint.

If Apple wants to shake things up, they should give us the news which the Times and the other Times and the Post won’t touch because they like their pristine reputations.

    They won’t.

    1. I see an official member of the Tinfoil Hat Brigade has already been through here. You forgot the faked moon landings, Bigfoot, and the Loch Ness Monster.

Close up of the collapse initiation on the tower. Not a controlled demolition. You can see the exterior siding twist and snap consistant with the conclusions of the NIST report and not some controlled demolition fantasy:

      1. @ First 2014 Now 2016

There is only one fact you need to know regarding that tower. It blew up from the inside. How do we know? Because pieces weighing many tons were ejected SIDEWAYS hundreds of feet and highway speeds.

A nearby bank was damaged by the side shot of ejected debris. A gravitational collapse would not even have come close.

You have government propaganda on your side with the sad/funny NIST report. Who’s on my side? Thousands of architects and engineers who agree the twin towers were blown to kingdom come. See http://www.ae911truth.org.

But you already know that, don’t you?

  2. This effort is absolute foolishness. Their failures on the content side of everything they try only damages the brand. It’s a sign of the children running loose in the halls because they make so much money no one needs to focus on surviving anymore. Now they can decide the music, next the news, after that whatever the next genius decides is important. Hey Tim, stop admiring the balance sheet and start asking who is running the content day care operation!

  3. I curate Apple News for Trove, which has many user curated topics. It is can be hard to find newsworthy things like unbiased reviews and useful how-to articles among all the unsubstantiated rumor and click-bait articles.

  4. I nominate Lew Grant. Look, how about everyone cool their jets. Let Apple News begin publishing, and then decide if you like it. It’s certainly not the only game in town. There are currently approximately 1 zillion sources for “news”. And so far none of them satisfy everyone’s ideal. That should be a pretty clear indication that it is impossible to satisfy everyone, and Apple’s offering will be no different. Some will love it, and probably many more will think its crap.
