Apple set to unveil new 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and iMac computers

Apple is reportedly readying a new batch of Macs to launch “between late spring and summer,” including a new 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and iMac computers.

Apple's all-new iMac features a stunning all-new design that is remarkably thin, with a striking side profile that practically disappears.
Apple’s 24-inch iMac

Andrew Cunningham for Ars Technica:

The most significant of the three would be a 15-inch MacBook Air, but a new Mac Pro refresh would complete the Mac’s transition from Intel’s CPUs and AMD’s GPUs to Apple Silicon, and a new 13-inch MacBook Air could also be in the cards. Apple is also said to be planning a new 24-inch iMac that could be the first of its Macs to use its next-generation M3 chip.

Gurman’s report has few details about the new 13-inch MacBook Air beyond the fact that it exists. It could be a new model with an M3 chip, though the M2 model was just released in July, and the gap between the M1 and M2 Air was closer to a year and a half. It could also be an M2-flavored update to the notch-less $999 MacBook Air, in the vein of the M2 version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

But Gurman seems more certain that the new iMac will include the M3, given that “Apple has developed the next iMac on the same timeline as the M3 chip.” This new iMac would look the same as the current M1 model, from the 24-inch screen to the available color options, but “some of its internal components” will be “relocated and redesigned.”

The new iMac is “at an advanced stage of development” and will likely launch in the second half of 2023. Those still waiting on a replacement for the dearly departed 27-inch iMac will need to keep waiting…

MacDailyNews Take: Who’d be in the market for an iMac with a larger 27-, 32-, or even 36-inch display?

  1. Would love a new 27 or 32″ iMac, preferably WITHOUT the white bezel, for myself.

Finally gave up recently and bought one of the kids a new 24″ knowing an upgrade was eventually coming out but since he was replacing a 2010 Mini (that still worked fine, albeit slow on some things) he wasn’t worried about having what’s around the corner!!

  2. Can’t wait for the 15-inch MacBook Air. Been waiting to replace a 15-inch MacBook Pro that’s about ten years old, but don’t need the power and expense of the current Pro laptops. My order will go in Day 1.

And, of course, I’d love to buy a larger iMac (although I’m not ready to replace my current (4-year-old) 27-inch iMac). A 32-inch screen would be perfect!!

    1. I would buy a new proper replacement for my 2015 27” iMac w/ 3TB HD in a flash! Been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting, it makes no sense, i don’t want that seperate screen and little box computer ! That is now a step up for this user other than 2x the price! Still waiting

  3. Please, PLEASE a new real Mac Pro — one with slots and expandable RAM and replaceable CPU and everything the Pro USED to have. I miss my CMP every day… this Intel Mac Mini with an eGPU doesn’t cut it. I got 13 years from my LAST Pro… would love to do that again.

  4. Top of my list would be a 15″ MacBook Air. I traveled overseas with a 15″ PowerBook and loved it. Can’t think of a better size for someone on the road, especially since it will be lighter than the old PowerBook.

Two helpful features of the PowerBook were (1) easy to use buttons on the keyboard so you can access the keyboard connection to the computer, Security at LAX put the belt into reverse, causing my brand-new PowerBook to go flying onto the floor. I was able to lift up the keyboard and firm up the connector to the computer while siting in the Qantas Club having a drink and snacks. The other nice feature was the tiny button on the left side the showed the level that the battery was charged.
